You have to pay to download the books too, not inexpensive, and you can't
transfer them to another device

I don't think it's worth the price... in today's tech device market I don't
think the Kindle is worth more than $25. You can use any lap top or PDA for
the same thing and a whole lot more. Personally I prefer reading real
books, I can use the public library for free. Or I can buy real books (used
are very cheap), and when I'm done reading I can give them away, trade them,
or sell them. I think the Kindle is a very expensive way to read, it's
purely a gimmick. If I wanted I could download books to a memory stick and
read in bed on my big screen TV. For me a big part of reading enjoyment is
derived from holding a real book and turning pages... reading off a screen
is too sterile, it doesn't transport me.

If you have an extra $400 burning a hole in your pocket this is a far better
buy:

I disagree. Ebook readers have their place. I have the Sony PRS505 and
love it. Received it as a gift, or else I wouldn't have it.

The benefits:

1) Small and light weight.
2) Screen large enough to read the text (and can change from small,
medium and large). Much better resolution then most lap/note book type
computers.
3) Can store many books on it. I have over a hundred on it, and that's
just the ones I might want to read now. Otherwise I'd have more on there.
4) Battery life is long (if shut down between uses) as I theoretically
can turn the page 1700 plus times before needing a recharge, but haven't
needed to do that yet. I can read for a week without charging. Can you
leave your laptop on for a week while you go camping?

The Minuses:

1) No back light on the model (but I have an add-on back-light).
2) Requires a recharge from time to time.
3) I don't have any cookbooks I like in Ebook format :-(

Here's the one I have, and some of the reviews others have made and the
associated back light:

Amazon should be treating these just like a mobile phone. You give
the phone away...but require a two year contract.

It would be easy to sell them requiring two one year subscriptions to
NYT and WSJ. Plus a required four per month download of a
different book. They would have themselves covered in full for the
cost of a Kindle.

With the current "green" mentality, paper publications are going to
become taboo.

Too funny... what, yer gonna wipe yer ass with a RAM chip? LOL

The computer age generated more paper in the past year than has been used in
total since the begining of time... don't get more green than paper.

Glad you chose to ignore the rest of my response as it reinforces the
reason why I'm putting you in the killfile. You add zero value, and you
are generally rude.

Bye-Bye

Hi,
E-mail me privately and I can help you out with sites and stuff.
No use in posting the stuff here as our exchanges would be OT.
