Corned beef and cabbage was a traditional Irish Catholic Friday dish
wasn't it? Don't bother telling me that the rules have changed and it
was invented in New York :-)

Not necessarily... there are Irish Protestants, too. More likely lamb in
Ireland, though, corned beef in the US.

Catholics historically did not eat meat on Friday until the church changed
it's position on "no meat on Fridays". Usually people had either fish or
other meatless meals. Mac & cheese was popular, fried cabbage and noodles,
and a lot of other things depending on ethnicity.

AFAIK, corned beef and cabbage did have Irish roots, just not on Fridays.

Is it just me, or does Peter Lucas sound like he has bipolar
disorder? He is clearly experiencing a "manic" or "high" episode.
He's not sleeping, his thoughts (comments) seem to be racing, he had
grandiose ideas about who he is and what he can do. These are serious
symptoms of bipolar disorder. I think he's of his meds and I'm
serious and worried.

Actually, fish Fridays are still popular in Maryland even among people

It's certainly possible, but also possible that it's undiagnosed. David is
bipolar, but well controlled for years. I am quite familiar with both ends

Some people do it, you know.

If you are referring to the above comments, which you have attributed
entirely to me, you might notice that some of the comments have 4 >>'s and
some have 3 >>'s.

That means that *my* comments (with the 4 >>'s ) were first, and someone
else made the comments with the 3 >>'s.

And by simply just going back and looking at the thread *this* is how you
should have posted it...........

Traditionally, Friday was fish. Don't know where you got that corned

Ah! American Irish and their customs! I was once denounced as an
"English" oppressor of the Irish race in New York. When my accuser could
be persuaded to count, it turned out we had the same number of Irish
greatgrandparents. I was brought up in Scotland too!

Well there's the fine point then :) Remember when Paul M. Cook insisted
"poor Irish" ate corned beef, a St. Patrick's day tradition? Wrong. That's
the type of misnomer I'm talking about. I do love a good (American) corned
beef with cabbage, though, and so did my mother. I'll eat cabbage any day
of the week. Corned beef brisket twice a month if I could actually find it.
I love the stuff :)

my father used to take his mother to the podiatrist every third friday.
one friday (post vatican ii), he saw granny chowing down on fish sticks.

'ma, the pope says you don't have to eat fish on friday any more.'

granny says, 'what does *he* know?'
