Viennetta Alert!
 

People have asked about this in the past, here I think, so I
thought I should mention our surprising discovery of Viennetta
after many years without it in the United States. I happened to
see an ad on a cart (the only such ad I saw, BTW), which is the
only reason we looked and found it. There were two flavors:
vanilla and triple chocolate. The box says only Viennetta,
although it is a Unilever product. (Who made it before? Was it
Breyer's?)

In case it matters, this was spotted in a Stop & Shop in
Massachusetts.

I have no clue, but could it have been Pepperidge Farms perhaps? I
remember years ago I'd bought a 'frozen' dessert I think was called
"viennetta." I thought it was kept in the fridge, and by the time I
took it out to serve, it was a melted mess ;/ Still tasty though ;)

It was originally Breyer's. Breyer's is owned by Unilever.

I remember when Viennetta came out in the early 80s. Some I knew
rushed to buy it, lemminglike. Verry small portion, and probably not
the best of ingredients, either.

label.

I've seen the commercials but I can't remember what it was. Pudding?

I remember the spoon and the stemmed crystal dish (like the cat food
commercials!) plus the loooong yum factor. The rest is a blur, if
they ever told us what it was - but I don't think they did.

I don't think you'd guess it from tasting it, either. It really is bland
and sort of slimy in the cream part and all I see as positive is the
crunch. Save the calories.

So it has an "eeew" factor too! Glad I didn't fall for the
commercials. I would have spent too much time in the pudding isle
looking for it.
