Are you inviting anyone over to watch the returns? What are you
planning for dinner? Will it be labor intensive so you're not really
paying attention, or will you throw something easy in the oven so you
can concentrate on the pundit commentaries?

Not sure yet. Maybe pizza, athough I am trying to keep an eye on what
I eat lately....

Whatever it will be, will be not too labor intensive, as I am an
election addict. I keep glued to the TV and results coming in, til
the bitter end. I still remember staying up to watch the results
coming in from CA, back in the 68 election. Same for the past two
elections. Hopefully I will not have a reason to drown my sorrows
this year...

I did get a bottle of Prosseco, just in case I can celebrate.

What are you fixing?

Christine, who has already voted.

My husband is all for watching the returns, but I am just so tired of all
the talk (and especially the talking heads, half the time what I see
happening is bad enough without some overpaid, undersmart shirt explaining
it ad nauseum) I think I will probably work and just check in from time to
time for a tally.

I could never have people over for the event. If Obama loses, I am not going
to be a good sport. (It's not like a football game. There are real things at
stake, right? *shiver*)

It'll just be us, and we're planning a dinner of appetizers--mostly pre-made
stuff, but I will be making some bruschetta and stuffed mushrooms. DH is
debating about whether to go ahead and buy a bottle of Dom before Tuesday to
toast the results that evening, or wait til after Tuesday to do that (don't
want to jinx anything...).

I am afraid to watch the election results. Over the years there have
been a number of candidates with pros and cons. I was stunned to see
Bush elected the first time. I was sadly disappointed to see the
American people re-elect him. Now I am very fearful that my neighbours
might vote for McCain and leave Sarah Pallin and old man's heartbeat
away from the presidency.

If I could I would invite my BIL over and serve Humble Pie!

Alas he lives too far away.

I'm going to vote as soon as the polls open then have most of a 2-foot
"breakfast" Philly cheesesteak, a shot of tequila and then smoke a giant,
cheap, stale, old, presidential election day cigar at the park. My
"trifecta" if you will, in horse racing parlance. Say the pledge of
allegiance and wait four more years for my next cigar!

Not for a cigar - too bad it's not a doobee then you can really enjoy
the cheesesteak.

:-)

Carp I don't smoke those anymore either.

I'm with you, Christine. =o) I'll be at my Dad's for dinner that
night (and lord knows WHAT he'll serve. I don't go for the food. He
does have a much better TV than I do, though.) But I've bought some
brie and pate and have a recording of Beethoven's ninth so I can
celebrate like a proper Liberal Elitist. If what I hope happens
happens, I'll be celebrating for several days.

I voted yesteray and was glad I did it early and early in the day. By
the time I left the Registrar of Voters for my county, the line was
already much longer than it had been when I arrived.

Dimitri,

Heh heh heh heh heh!

One thing I worry about after voting on election day is which state will
decide the vote. Scary, almost, to think if my vote counts or not!

Best,

Andy

Why? The returns probably won't begin coming in until 11:00pm eastern
time and 8:00pm pacific time. Either one is too late for most people to
eat dinner? On election day though, I will be at a local Obama HQ doing
volunteer work, so unless there's some food there, I won't be eating
anything when the returns start coming in.

Good for you. The volunteers at the downtown Raleigh early voting center did
a GREAT job today. It took ten minutes from parking to walking out the door
with our stickers. And the line was LONG when we got there, too.

Hey, Andy, ever had the Chili's "Philly Cheesesteak?" Not that you would
need to since you are up there. My husband had it today, and it looked
pretty good.

My dad's wife has been working pretty hard volunteering at an Obama HQ in
north-central PA (a very rural, conservative area). I would love to go out
and volunteer right now, either locally (I'm in Baltimore) or in PA or VA. I
have three kids aged five and under, though, so that presents a challenge.
We have donated a good deal of $ to the Obama campaign, though; I guess
that's helped.

cybercat,

Nope. The one Chili's for miles around burned to the ground about three or
four years ago. They're a predominantly quasi-Mexican food chain. I can't
see them getting Philly cheesesteaks right! I'd rather have one of their
burritos? I think? <G>

Ate at Chili's exactly once. Being from L.A. I'm leary of all the chain
Mexican restaurants that have sprouted up around town. Probably not fair to
them, but still, I've got muy excellenté Mexican food still running through
my veins from decades ago.

Best,

Andy

P.S. If it's still there, Western Ave and Wilshire Blvd., "Excellent

The way I understood it, and I really didn't, was that I'd write

Nahhh... We won't know if the person we elected is the one we thought
we'd elected until a few months have gone by. If the country is still
here and reasonably healthy in say, six months... I'll have a

Some states do not have early voting (in person). My state (MD) doesn't.
I'll vote on Tuesday.

Not sure what we're doing. It'll be my night to cook. Both SO and I
mailed in our ballots last week. Since we're on the Left Coast
(Seattle), things could be pretty far along by the time we get home from
work. The big drama here will be the governor's race, which is a
rematch from 2004.

We seem to have plenty of voting sites around here, so hopefully the wait

What's the matter with you? We are having apps, with a few friends
over. I really don't care who they vote for, it's an end to all the
political commercials! I will be serving crackers with crab &
artichoke dip for the republicans, and the chocolate liquer recipe I
recently posted for the dems. I was also thinking of chocolate mousse
in honor of Sarah, and Jello shooters for her too, even tho I don't
support that party. Still in the planning stages, but so far, so good!

Ah. Sorry. I thought early polling was more widely available. We had
two places to go, including the local library.

Which would be slightly better than a VP that can't count to four. J-O-B-S

Democrats Abroad are throwing an all night party in Rome to which all voters
are invited, not just Democrats. Of course we are hoping that only
Democrats will have anything to celebrate. I am not going because I don't
do all night, but happily will get up at 4:30 or 5 to see if it's over yet.

They are serving breakfast throughout, American breakfast with lots of sat
fats.

I voted early in the primaries too, and the line was only about 6 people
long so it was not so bad. They were only offering one polling place
for that.

It's just that record voter turnout is predicted and even with the price
of gas FINALLY coming back down, I'm still predicting it too!

I paid $2.05 last week. :-)
I'll be happier if it goes below $1.80 again.
