I crossposted to all of them because I had no idea which group Mark was
posting from. Just like I have no idea what group you are posting from.

Good for them. There are a lot of good posters from Google Groups as well,
so why cast them in with the spammers? Since you probably killfile by
default you would never know...

Yes, and nearly 100% of your posts in rst are what I would consider a
garbage post... should I openly protest you in my sig?

I'm not a big fan of eggs myself so no thanks.

Nope, are you? It sounds like it to me. I think you use this platform to
make yourself look like a usenet veteran, yet the tone of your posts makes
you sound about 14...

>
> I see you use Gmail, jdeluise...do you call an Internet search

Yes, I use a gmail account because of spam but I also get some emails of
interest from people here. Believe me, there has been spam on and from
usenet long before Google Groups, and if you didn't know that then who's the
novice here?

>
> You are more like a troll than a USENET guru, jdeluise.

And your gutter posts such as these add a lot of positive value to usenet?
I certainly think not.

My point is that you gain nothing by wasting bandwidth protesting against
something that is never going to change. It's stupid, infantile, and simply
futile in my opinion. Additionally, it's unfair to categorize all Google
Groups users as nym-shifting trolls. I've seen you accusing hops in rst of
all people as being one, and that is simply going too far. Believe me, I
will call you on it every time I see one of these posts from you again, so
it might be in your best interest to killfile me now! Don't worry, I won't
nym-shift on you to get your attention.

Looks like you are better behaved in the cooking group, cybercat.

It's a major feature of USENET newsreader programs. Its importance
depends partly on the group and the subject. Posting in context
(instead of top posting) and threading (the thing you get on Google
Groups if you choose Options -- View as tree) can be very useful
especially in a technical help group. Post in context by putting
your question or answer immediately after the text you are replying
to. If you are asking for technical help, most reply authors will
post in context to make very clear what they are talking about, for
the benefit of the original poster and for peer review. And when you
follow up to someone trying to help you, you should also post in
context. It helps provide clear communications especially when it
matters. And then some people just can't stand to see someone top
post.

An affectation, considering that one's editor may top-post as the default,
as mine does.
And one should post to which groups are in the default 'reply' position- it
would be worse netiquette to remove someone else's addresses peremptorily-
it inconveniences no one, net-nannies aside.

Howdy,

As we all have seen, on occasion, folks post their comments
interspersed with those of the person to whom they respond.

In all my many years of reading Usenet, I have never seen
anyone do that by "top posting" the various parts of their
response.

Have you?

To me, that simple reality is testament to the lack of logic
in the suggestion that top posting is appropriate in a
threaded medium.

All the best,

Being a program default isn't the reason to top post or to post in
context. Apparently your "editor" doesn't introduce authors correctly
either. That stuff is not just posting etiquette, its convention that
can be very useful for clear communications. But, again, whether
posting form matters depends on the situation. In a cross posted
thread started by a troll, almost anything goes IMO.

Chilla might look like the original author to Paul, since Chilla
changed the subject line. A new thread might have been started in
Paul's newsreader. If possible, turning off "start a new thread when
subject changes" might be a good idea.

Hey Paul I didn't start it, and I sure as hell don't know which group
you posted from either, as you have cross posted yourself ;-)

Fortunately this topic, technically, is valid for all groups concerned,
unlike the post that started this massive thread.

Top posting replies is for the retarded class of usenet users who use
simpleminded newsreaders like OE Express.

It would logically follow that this sentence should follow the one above.

Why on earth would I want to reverse the order of the whole damn thing?

Some of us *like* Outlook Express, and are courteous enough to both trim our
replies *and* bottom-post.

BTW, I had to smile at the fact that TFM® scornfully used words like
"retarded" and "simpleminded", then went on to write "OE Express". It's like
the curse of the spelling flame, where you are unable to keep from
misspelling something even while you're pointing out the misspelling of
someone else. In this case, "OE Express" is something which ought to be
forwarded to the Department of Redundancy Department.

Yes, you can. Of course, if you want to neaten up the post, you
have to go back up to the top anyway, which is why I leave that
setting.

I think it's possible to change settings in Outlook so that it will
automatically bottom-post, but not in Outlook Express. In any case it's the
work of only a second or two to move the cursor to the bottom of the text --
and I like to trim all the extraneous stuff out of that text, so by the time
I'm done trimming I'm at the bottom of the text anyway.

It's necessary to move the cursor to the bottom in Xnews in order to bottom
post unless the quoted to be quoted has been highlighted prior to hitting
"reply". In that case, the cursor defaults to the bottom.

On rare occasions I top post, but only for specific reasons.
