He's not joking. He's an asshole who loves to try to smear people. I suppose
this is his only way of elevating himself. At least in his mind.

I find it sad that a regular should have to be told (again and again)
to munge with all the talk here about gmail. I don't see them either,
and I feel it's their responsibility to be seen.

I don't think we ever knew who either Buffy or Jimmy Tango's
creator(s) were. There were certainly enough credible candidates at
the time - very clever writers of posts - who could have filled the
bill. Both Buffy and Jimmy Tango had somewhat similar recipes to
offer, but JT's posts were limited to a saltines-and-sardines type
recipe offering, while Buffy offered a travelogue and narrative, along
with a saltines-and-sardines type "regional" recipe offering.

I enjoyed them both, but suspect the OP(s) have drifted off, however*
if Buffy and/or Jimmy are out there...come home!

I enjoyed Buffy in her first incarnation, but too many authors dragged
it on too long. I didn't find Jimmy amusing from the git go.

It's all just the dregs of the fetid memory of Queen Greg the Nasty. Puked
up to keep his mind off of his own state of decay. *shudder*

There are some things best left unanswered and uncontemplated.

Things are great, I am not a guide but a worker bee, I am not digging
now but working in the lab, sorting , cataloging and taking care of
the finds, am pretty tired. It has been a good summer, we have made
some great finds, and the weather has cooperated- no flooding in our
area.

I have had a great summer!! Thanks for asking!

Odd, I have never noticed any "talk about gmail". However, now that I have
finally caught up, this should be able to be read by all the post-AOL
paranoids ;-)

I never got the point of kill-filing domains.

You haven't been around. Whatever they have done, the gmail
spam is not nearly as overwhelming as it was a couple of months
ago. It got to the point where many of us blocked gmail in
self-defense.

Of course, being rfc, this caused much squabbling among the
regulars. Heh.

Well, I have, skimming and picking topics but not doing much posting. End
of session is always a grind at work and this Parliament is a particularly
petulant one. Also, I only have 351 days left until I retire (June 17 2009
will be my last day). I am now mostly in charge of transmitting my
knowledge to my colleagues so the work can continue after I'm gone...cause
I ain't comin' back to fix things (unless they offer me a contract to work
two days a week, one of them at home ;-) ). So I have to devise ways of
doing something that has never been done before because I created my job as
I went along, responding to editor needs etc etc. We estimate the year or
so I have left will be just enough time at one hour a week.

Was this the Chinese cheap knock-offs spam? I set my parameters to kill-
file anything which is crossposted to more than two groups, which usually
gets rid of serious troll attacks and that sort of crap.

And it wouldn't be rfc without the squabbling ;-)

You sure don't want to make this the longest year of your life!
Once you start counting, yikes. Keep busy.

I let the countdown metre on iGoogle do the counting for me ;-)

Actually, it's so-so, as I am retiring with slightly more than a half-
pension (20 years instead of the usual 35). But on the other hand, I can't
wait until I have a magic number. I would have to work until I was 77 to
do that. But I have investments and a retirement fund that has been filled
up to capacity, so I'm likely going to be quite ok. Also, it will be
topped up by my Canada Pension Plan. So no extravagances like trips to
outer space, but I will be able to meet my needs.

Betty still has about 12-13 years to go. She'll do better than me when she
leaves as she is at a much higher level in the public service; she finally
got her position of Senior Economist approved. She went to university as an
adult and got an MA so she could do that but ended up doing budgets for the
last eight years. She is now finally where she should have started, on the
policy side of her division. In fact she was just in the Bay area last
week for a workshop on Health and the Environment at Berkeley.

I'm actually counting on my children getting a breakthrough in acting (my
daughter) and singing opera (my son) for my financial needs in my dotage
;-) Yeah...right!

It sounds fine in principle, but it's not the sort of job where you use
some of your skills for most of the time and a small subset once in a while
the outcome of which is crucial.

If the knowledge does not get transferred, they may just scrap the entire
thing. The suits don't know what we do, even after we explain it to them,
so they would not necessarily understand that our work is crucial to
editing.

No, I'm thinking more that they might offer me an editor job. They know I
can do it, I have the language skills to work in either French or English
with equal ease, and I am the only person in the Publications Branch who
has studied Latin and Greek, and is not unfamiliar with Arabic, Celtic
languages and most written languages. Identification of languages and
conventions to render them is a constant problem for editors, which I most
often solve to their satisfaction.

The multi-language skills I will never be able to impart to others
completely, but that might not be enough. Who knows. I am not necessarily
asking to work after I retire. It would have to be damned interesting, i.e
a proper challenge, to drag me out of the house. To paraphrase Linda
Evangelista's diva pronouncement: We don't wake up for less than 10 mental
challenges a day.

Yep. You're seen now. But this has nothing to do with AOL. AOL
people wouldn't have been able to fix it as easily as you did.

With the exception of the webbies I never did either. Until gmail got
so bad.

Let's just say she did her "dirty" work behind the scenes, (email) and
used the group as her personal stage. And what was said in email was
shared with others in email. She was an evil person.

Isn't it funny how after a steady diet of fast food even a Jimmy Tango
casserole would be a welcome change. We'll have our own torture by fast
food in about another month or so, we're going to be moving and it always
takes a month or so to get things packed, moved and sorted out enough to go
back to cooking.
