Bo Diddley passed on to that great 45 bin in the sky. I'm so bummed.

Seriously, it truly puts a tear in my eye. This man was one of the real
originals of rock and roll. His signature shuffle was legendary, instantly
recognizable by generations of savvy rockers, and irresistably infectuous to
even the most jaded rock fan. It inspired and helped launch the careers of
Buddy Holly, Johnny Otis, The Rolling Stones, George Thoroughgood, and
countless others.

I give him a 100! ...and easy to dance to.

The Times' standard "Mr." style is a hoot when it makes the writer
refer to "Mr. Diddley." On the other hand the Times obit contains:
"'You cannot say what people are gonna like or not gonna like,' he
explained later to the biographer George R. White. 'You have to stick
it out there and find out! If they taste it, and they like the way it
tastes, you can bet they'll eat some of it!'"

We all ate a lot of it, Mr. Diddley.

It would have more just (financially and psychically) had he gotten
more of the proceeds.

slimey, nefarious, self-serving black holes of evil ever puked up by
American capitalism. I will rot in my grave before I spend one more cent on
a CD for what they did to this man. Better to listen to broadcast radio or

While Bo may have been a mere catalyst, his genius never fully recognized
except by his those he precipitated, we will forever be in rock and roll
debt to this simple and sincere man. (dang, makes ya wanna cry!

Very many years ago at a small lounge connected to a motel in the Portland
area, I had the pleasure and honor of seeing him perform.

Although I was in a altered state of consciousness I will remember that
moment in time and the pleasure it brought me until the day I can thank him
in person.

Enjoy. I mostly read history, but while that's history of a sort, it's
not the kind of history I read. But it pulled me right in, and never
stopped satisfying. Colorful guy; colorful life.

I ran across my copy on a sale table at Barnes & Noble, for four or five
dollars -- with a nice twist. I was early for my annual get together with
my tax guy, the early part of April, and had a half hour to kill. So I
went to the bookstore across the street figuring I'd pick up a cheap sale
book and they'd validate what would probably be fice or six bucks worth of
parking (my tax guy doesn't). Indeed -- instead of a six-buck parking
tab, I got six bucks worth of parking and a very readable book for
five dollars or less.
