They get etched, just like glassware. If it bothers you, switch to
hand-washing them. Mine have survived the dishwasher just as shiny as
new ones.

Mine always go into the dishwasher if they fit and I have room in the
load. Why would I want to handwash 'em if I don't have to? Blech, I hate
extra clutter around the sink. My pots look just fine.
I don't use detergents with citrus in them though. That might explain
the lessening of any etching or discoloration>?
