I have seen the future of cooking tv....
 

...... and it is The Travel Channel!

Actually, it may be the future of all tv. You realize what TTC is doing,
don't you? It's training people to be their own travel celebrity. You
provide the travel, camera, dialogue, etc, and they pay you. They will even
train you ...TTC Academy.

I think I just saw one of the new TTC's travel celebrities. Everything was
"epic" and "fantastic" and... well, here's an example. The guy was flying
in a USCG C130 and asked the pilot the distance they were traveling.

TTCT (TTC twit): How far are we flying?
Pilot: Twelve hundred miles.
TTCT: Twelve... hundred... miles! Unbelievable!!

With such gripping dialoge as that, how can it miss?

IOW, the networks are subing out their content to rank amateur hacks! Let's
cut to the bottom line. No producers, no directors, no writers, no staff,
just content from some DIY'er who fancies himself a celebrity host. If the
camera work is good, sign 'em Dano. So, what's my point? If it's working
for TTC, how far behind can the Food Network and the rest of TV be? Not
far, I'm sure.

So, here they come, an army of fresh-off-Youtube DIY'ers who will work for
little money, probably no benefits or residuals, and supply all their own
everything. It's a dream come true. I can see the Food Network now.

OTOH, it may be a marked improvement over what FN has been offering, so far.

OK, enough of you lame humor. I just finished taping the third episode of
"What's In That Wastebasket?" and you are already making fun of me. Well,
just wait until the reviews are in and I'm a star. As a celebrity and big
draw for the network, spin-offs will be coming next season when we do
"Wastebasket Throwdown" and "Recycle Bin Envy".

Now you know who is going to replace Emeril in that prime time slot.

Not just that, it's on a channel you pay to watch. They can sell you their
station, their products, and their other shows, and it costs them next to
nothing. They can also repeat it three times a night and countless times a
week. Talk about budget t.v. and half the watchers are drawn to sending in
their own contributions so they watch and watch to see if their face pops
up. Ugh

Not sure what you mean, but I've seen DC. I'm waiting for the program where
they follow a garbage man. I've already seen one where they profile a
septic tank truck driver. I think tv will eventually devolve to a close up
of a guy picking his nose and rolling the booger. (don't tell MTV)

I mean that is the future of food tv, starting with the televised harvest.

I don't think that driving the honey wagon and sucking out septic tanks would be
as bad as the divers who actually have to swim through sewers and treatment
facilities.

The honey wagon drivers must get used to the stink. One guy grossed me right out
when he was cleaning my septic tank. It was a hot summer day and I offered him a
beer, which he gladly accepted. When the line got clogged he set the beer down,
dragged the hose out and pulled off a piece of wood that was blocking it....
with his bare hands. He set the hose back down, picked up his beer and had a
swig. I would have put on gloves to handle that stuff and then washed my hands
with pure bleach before it went anywhere near my mouth.
