Default Viking Cooking Schools for Kids-Summer Camp

Always on the prowl for cool things to do with the youngest kidlette
over summer break...perhaps you are too?
If you have a Viking Cooking School near you-

Seems like Vikings are the type who would just shove skewered bloody
hunks of meat into a fire.

But seriously, I've been thinking lately about my 6 YO in regards to
cooking. He's still too short to use the stovetop. My wife suggested
having him do prep, but that involves knives. I think that this
Summer I'll let him help with grilling, read : "shove skewered bloody
hunks of meat into a fire."

My wife has done a lot of cooking with kids, including teaching classes,
for ages from kindergarden to teens. Six is a little young, and a lot
of adult help and supervision is needed, but with care you can find
rewarding things for them to do. My wife is cooking at a church retreat
for Memorial Day. She is already planning kid activities. Little
Ashley says that her favorite part of the retreat is cooking. She is
eleven shortly, but she has been cooking at them for several years. My
wife is planning pizza, birthday cake and muffins. The littlest kids
will put toppings on the pizza, decorate the cakes and make muffins.
The muffin mix has one ingredient, water.

How old is your kidlet, Goomba? There's a picture of my youngest on the
rfc mugshot page.

Kids always like to do the "spicing". Last summer, I went camping with
our Cub Scout den. I was in charge of the evening meal. so we made
"hobo packs". Chicken thighs, assorted veggies, and an array of
spices. Each kid made their own pack to their liking. It was a lot of
fun for them, and they ate all of their dinners. It was really cute-
they were so proud of themselves!!

Maybe that camp is for the under 12 set. Even Vikings have standards.

For the record, those two "I"s were typoes for "A". I was speaking for
sharkhood, not just me. At least I was trying to.

In _Njal's Saga_ they ate a lot of dried fish.
