Diners in 'suck my d**k' bill outrage
Restaurant service without a smile

NSFW A group of chums who were less than impressed with the service at a
Staffordshire restaurant learned the hard way that you don't mess with
England's waiting staff and walk away unscathed.

The 10 friends had booked a table in the Joe Delucci's Italian
restaurant in Lichfield for 8pm last Friday. Clare Watkin, 32, recounted
to the Beeb that "by the time they had taken our order it was quarter to
nine and we didn’t actually receive our food until quarter past 10".

Accordingly, they voiced their discontent, and when the printed bill
arrived it featured - between "1 Cab Sauv Glass, £4.00" and "1 Fish
cakes, £4.95" - the unexpected "1 SUCK MY DICK **** FACE, £0.00".*

Watkin thundered: "I couldn't believe it. The bill read 'fish cakes’,
which one of us had for a starter, and it was written right above it -
absolutely disgusting language."

She added: "I'd like a written apology from the restaurant and I'd also
like some compensation. I think that the way that we've been spoken to
is absolutely outrageous."

Restaurant owner Nigel Langsdon said the message was intended as a
"private joke" between two members of staff, and admitted: "That
shouldn't come out on the bill, so we've got to find out what's gone
wrong there."

He said: "But we have apologised unreservedly to the girls concerned and
said that they're very welcome to come back and have a free meal and
we'd like them to."

Langsdon has also offered to donate the bill for their meal to a local
children's hospice.

Too true. It reminds me of an experience with Big Niece. My FiL used to have a
birthday / Christmas birthday party at one of his clubs. It was a special family
brunch buffet. He would arrange for a private room next to the main party hall.
Serving staff brought beverages. One day I could not help but not how BN tried to
recruit the server as her personal slave. He came around with coffee. She asked to
tea. He heads off to get tea and delivers it. There is cream on the table, but she
wants milk. He runs off to get a pitcher of milk and delivers it. Then she decides
she also wants a glass of milk. He brings the milk and then she asks for a glass of
juice. The waiter disappeared. I don't blame him.

If she was going to scarf down all those beverages she could have had the decency to
order it all at once instead of one thing after another and expecting him to make
multiple trips back and forth. It's part of the grazing pattern, just keep
consuming a bit at a time and pretend it is not one huge pile all at once I was
ticked because I wanted more coffee later on and our server had disappeared. I knew
why, and I didn't blame him at all.

Looks like someone forgot to teach her *respect*, which is even more
important than manners, IMHO.

Respect is not taught. Respect is earned.

I'm so sick of this current generation talking about respect. "You got to
ree-spect me". Bullshit! You're not getting one goddamn iota of respect
from me until you've proven yourself to worthy of it. And let's not confuse
respect with fear. If you're gonna whip my ass or worse because I don't
respect you, that damn sure isn't respect. Maybe some disdain and a lot of
contempt mixed with a dose of fear, but damn sure not respect.

No, manners is correct. One is taught good manners, to treat others
respectfully, which is not the same thing as having respect for a person.
You can think a person is an absolute clod, but have the good manners to act
in a respectful manner. Two different things. Let's keep it straight.

You nailed it.

A few years ago I had an assistant supervisor drag one of the employees into
my office. They never got along for various reasons, mostly personal. The
assistant said to me "make her respect me" I had to explain that employees
must respect the position of a supervisor and do the work assigned, but
respect as an individual has to be earned.

A month later they both quit using the excuse they did not want to work with
the other. Now they are making other lives miserable.
