Hey guys,

I just found a site called http://www.rootbeerbrewer.com, where you
can get recipes for creating home brew root beer from scratch, and
eventually other soft drinks eventually. Looks pretty cool. Thought
you guys might like it.

But it's spam, nevertheless. With all the Internet fraud
going on these days, someone would have to be a fool
to do business with someone who is practicing deception,
like you. No honest business would spam a non-commercial
discussion newsgroup.

I saw nothing wrong with you posting a link to this food oriented site. I
don't like spam any more than the next guy but some people can't see the
forest for the trees.

It would still be spam because you are only advertising your web page.
You might have gotten a slightly better reception if you had told the
truth. But frankly, a good portion of the people here do not bother
to got to site that someone just drops in and says "here's a great new
site." They are usually full of advertisements and lousy recipes and
the main reason for being there is to collect "hits."

That's like asking how you can poop a big turd and
not have people say "That stinks!".

Trying to deceive people is a sign of a thief.
Nobody with any sense would do business with
you or the advertisers on your site. With all
the Internet scams going on these days, it would
make no sense to business with someone who is
known to be dishonest.

Well, for starters your site could have some better graphics, some
rootie tootie buxom beer girls... with the slogan they promise foamy

I'll tell you what I tell every spammer who has the courtesy to
apologize. Join us as a regular poster and use your web site as your
sig line. Go no further than that and you will be welcomed. If you
bothered to read many threads you will find there are a few regular
posters who are here because they want to be here, not because they
are pushing their businesses. One couple uses their web site in their
sig line, others don't. It's up to you as long as you're not
spamming.

BTW: I've gotten blasted myself by certain people (usually unknown
lurkers) and their knee jerk reaction to the "wording" when I've
honestly stumbled across a web site that I thought others might like
and posted it here.... so even regulars on the ng can get into
"trouble" with the masses because of spammers like you who put on the
big surprised act about finding their own web site.

You guys have made some good points. Sorry about that. I think
having my site associated with spam probably hurts my image more than
it helps by the few people it might get to go there. In retrospect
this was bad idea. I'll just have to rely on people to promote my
site for me as they find it and discover good content and link it to
their sites, and do my part by adding good content and making it a
good website.
