Default Tid Bits Tonight

We decided on no real dinner tonight, just a nice quiet evening and
snacking on a few things...

pickled sausages
grilled shrimp-stuffed jalapenos
tray of red, yellow, and orange pepper strips, scallions, grape tomatoes
extra sharp cheddar and stilton cheeses
pita and bagel chips
bottles of English cider

If we're up late, we might dig into one of the pies.

There is a small high-end grocery chain here in Phoenix called AJ's. They
have an excellent wine and spirits department and almost always have
English cider, at least a couple of brands.

Now that's the way to go Nice and Easy -- or lame & tame <g> --
especially the night before the 'big day' (for some folks) of food and
company. It used to be tradition in my family to get KFC early on
Christmas eve because my grandmother wouldn't cook dinner that night,
since the following day was the big feast. Made sense. I (sort of)
miss those days. Fond memories.

Sky, who says Merry Christmas Eve, folks

We have a similar market here, never thought to look for English
Cider. I'm going to have to check into it - going to be a long
winter. Thanks for yet another good idea Wayne - so glad you're back!
Merry Christmas :-)

Thanks, Nancy. Yes, do give a look there. Also, if you have any British
import shops. One shop carries it here, but it's a bit more expensive than
where I buy it.

It's good to see you here, too, and it's good to be back.

Merry Christmas!

Interesting etymology of tidbits, i looked cause i thought it was
supposed to be tit bits and assumed the obvious though erroneous conclusion.

Apparently "titbit" is the chiefly British version of "tidbit" meaning a
tender mouth full.

Sort of like the French bonne bouche or its more popular cousin the
"amuse bouche."

Sorry to disappoint! Tidbit has long been used in our family to represent
the way I used it. Merriam-Webster defines it as a "choice morsel of
food". I can't didsagree that these were not.

Merry Christmas!

We had real dinner. Prime rib, mashed potatoes, roasted brussels
sprouts and yorkshire pudding.... and gravy. Dessert was mini pecan
and mini sweet potato pies. Dinner was lubricated by incredible
wines.... one them was a 95 pointer (Pax Cuvee Christine 2005).

>If we're up late, we might dig into one of the pies.

What are your plans for tomorrow? We're going to visit relatives and
bringing the soup we didn't even begin to eat tonight.... plus what we
planned to bring in the first place.

The jalapenos I've bought recently have been so unpredictable. From
the same batch they've varied from medium hot to really, really hot,
such that a shrimp stuffed one would be inedible to any but hardcore
chile heads.

That sounds like a perfectly wonderful dinner! Everything I like!

We're staying home tomorrow, just the two of us. And as so often happens
with us, we're having separate dinners. :-) As you may remember, I don't
like turkey and that's what David wanted. He's having roast turkey breast,
mashed potatoes with gravy, and creamed peas. I'm having baked ham, a
large roasted sweet potato with plain butter, and roasted brussels sprouts.
We'll both have some homemade cranberry relish. We have pumpkin, mince,
and pecan pie.

We'll be watching some old Christmas movies.

I'm not sure how they tell, but the farm market where I buy them have them
in two bins, one medium and one hot. I picked medium. I did notice that
the ones in the medium bin were a bit more slender with a more pointed end.

I got a "bells and whistles" computer Omron POCKETpedometer so I guess I
should walk somewhere. Maybe a trial walk to Jackie, next door? I'll
cellophane wrap a bottle of wine and two wine glasses as a Christmas gift.

When my mother was alive we'd decend on her for xmas dinner. Because it
was easier to visit her than for her to visit us. Every xmas eve we'd
stop at a local hotel and pick up a complete xmas dinner to go.

Everything from turkey, ham, stuffing, veggies, gravy, to desserts pies
and cakes. We'd have to pre-order it say in the early fall to ensure that
there would be one dinner for us to pick up.

Next year I think we'll make that happen again, because it would bring
back pleasant memories of mom and reduce the confusion of who cooks what
and what time does this have to happen.

Next door is *how* far away, Andy? It's probably quite a hike! Hope
