Question re self-cleaning oven

I need help. I have a Whirlpool (electric) oven and it is ready to be
cleaned, but I goofed and lost the direction booklet. I see from recent
posts it is advisable to take the grids out first, but I haven't a clue as
to how to set it, other than to push the "self-clean" button. Do I need to
set a time for it or is it automatic? And approximately how long does it
take?

I would so appreciate some advice. We will be having a small wedding
reception here soon and I want to be ready for inspection!

While I'm at it, I see that there was a cookbook from this group, which by
the way, has been one of the most interesting news groups. You are a great
bunch of people. Is the cookbook printed or an on-line version? In any
case, is it possible to buy one, even though I haven't contributed
anything--yet.

Thanks in advance!

The best thing to do is call the manufacturer. Whirlpool customer
service is pretty good and they will probably be able to tell you how
to set your oven and answer other questions over the phone. Plus you
can get a new manual. You can find the phone number on their website,
either "Customer service" or "Parts." You might even try e-mail
support.

When I moved in to my current place, the various companies of the
existing appliances were helpful. Some required payment for a new
manual but I was just grateful they had one for such old appliances.
The only company that was nasty was Amana. They wanted $18 for an air
conditioner manual!

If you know the model number of your oven, you can download a copy of
your instruction manual at:

Sorry, the URL I gave doesn't seem to work if you don't navigate there
from the whirlpool home page.

Try this instead:

This is an urban myth. I do not know why people keep saying we made
a cookbook, it's so persistant.

Question re self-cleaning ovenKeep the grids in. Lock the door, there should be a little lever in front on top of the door and push the start
button. It takes about 5 hours (at least mine does and I have a Hotpoint). It will turn everything into ashes
and then you just wipe that up when it's cooled. The only downside besides the length of time is the
smell. Do it on a day when you can open a few windows.
I think it's great tho. Does a good job and the inside is still nice and shiny.
