FTC Moves To Block Whole Foods - Wild Oats Merger
Quoting from:
http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2007/06/wholefoods2.shtm The Federal Trade Commission has issued an administrative complaint challenging Whole Foods Market Inc.'s approximately $670 million acquisition of Wild Oats Markets Inc. The administrative complaint preserves the Commission's legal option to pursue an administrative remedy following the federal district court proceeding. According to the complaint, the transaction would violate federal antitrust laws by eliminating the substantial competition between these two uniquely close competitors in the operation of premium natural and organic supermarkets nationwide. The FTC contends that if the transaction goes forward Whole Foods would have the ability to raise prices and reduce quality and services. [Raise prices? Whole Foods would never do that! :-] |

Whole Foods would never do that! :-] well, i'm ****ed at whole foods anyway, because i was there yesterday and they had *zero* varieties of anchovy-stuffed olives *nor* any malt vinegar. christ, the local giant has two brands of malt vinegar. the f.t.c. must be concerned that the resulting behemoth will wipe out safeway or something. your pal, blake |

Whole Foods would never do that! :-] The Fascist Roberts Court could overrule the FTC. Right now, the worst threat to our way of life is not the Islamists. It is Scalia, Thomas, Alito, Roberts, and the dogshit president who appointed two on that list. Let's not forget the piece of shit, third branch of govt. Cheney. --Bryan |

Reagan said we should give him a big stick (the presidency) and he would bash the ayatollah. Instead, he funneled arms to the ayatollah, and used to big stick on the air traffic controllers.
