Take a discarded basketball hoop, spray it whatever color you want,
attach it to the kitchen wall, add S hooks and it's a pot rack!

Not a bad idea at all! I like that concept. And, one can put a plant
in the middle too [not that I would?] ;)

I have tried this and, I may be missing something,
but when I toss the pans through the hoop as I
would with a basketball they simply fall through
rather than snagging on the hooks. My cat Sabrina
hates this whole concept. And some of the pans are
simply too large to go through the hoop. Am I doing
something wrong?

yes ...you aren't dribbling.

Get a chain with large diameter links, hang one end from the ceiling or
attach both ends to the same wall in a rope-like fashion. Use with
various S hooks. Chello! err viola a pot rack.

Obviously, your hooks are facing in the wrong direction and as with
anything else... you need to hone your eye for proportions. Would you
try to shoot a medicine ball through a basketball hoop? Choose the
size of your pot, pan or skillet wisely.
