Default what is best soft drink

I usually buy diet pepsi, coke, dr pepper, mtn dew or any other brand name
diet soda.

I buy diet to avoid empty carbs.

Between giving up sugar soft drinks and french fries, you've made room for
some nice desserts.

I'm not worried about the sugar substitute. even though I know it's supposed
to cause cancer in some lab rats in CA.

Weeellll this is VA, we fine over here.

Coca-Cola made with cane sugar- not the U.S. version made with corn
syrup sweetener- is easily the best soft drink on the planet.

Don't particularly like colas of any sort. Currently, my
favorites are Trader Joe's black-raspberry lemonade, Goya's
Jamaican Ginger beer and Pompelmo (Italian Grapefruit soda: high
fructose corn syrup *not* listed.)

"we fine", eh?

Water is the best soft drink, followed closely by real juices in moderation.

If I drink soft drinks, which isn't too often I like ginger beers too. Down
east the brand is "Sussex", but there's probably a better one --- somewhere.

That's not a bad idea but I squeeze a quarter of a lime into a
glass of water and make sure the water is cold by using ice
cubes.

Ice cold water, water with a squeeze of lemon juice, or Diet Ginger Ale.
Diet Pepsi or Diet Coke is fine, but I have to add a squeeze of lemon or
lime, or they taste too sweet, for me.

But real juices are loaded with sugar.

A healthful drink is green tea,
which has almost no carbs and lots of
purported health benefits.

I do! That stuff you mention tastes like crap. Seriously.

Other good diet sodas are A&W root beer and diet Wild Cherry Pepsi.

I've never seen that. Sounds good. My primary soda is Diet Rite cola.
I wonder if tangerine is a regional offering.

During my 'stint' in the IT field, I became very addicted to Mtn. Dew. I
still love the stuff, just not going through four of them a day. Nowadays,
I really like adding about 1/2 a cup of lemon juice to some generic
lemon-lime drink. Basically making a very tart carbonated lemonade. Yum!

Fresca is good. So are lots of those clear carbonated, no calorie

No, really. Haven't you heard about drinking too much water? As
usual, all the health nuts advocating drinking 8-12 8oz glasses of
water per day to help you lose weight, prevent bloat, stay purged,
yada yada.... are full of it. Believe me, even I bought into it for
awhile. The fact is, you can over do the water thing. Drink what you
need, not what someone says you need.

Hi Blinky!

I live in Raleigh, NC. We have Diet Rite tangerine, white grape, and
Cola. I like the others too. The tangerine really does taste like tangerine,
I noticed it most when they were out and I bought some Diet Sunkist
Orange. Orange is sweeter.

I buy Diet Rite because I like Splenda. Aspartame makes me nervous.

I just about drank myself silly on water when I had a bladder infection
about a year and a half ago. I drank so much water that I couldn't keep it
down and it still didn't kill the bladder infection. It ended up that I had
to drink about 2 gallons of cranberry juice (over a period of a few days)
and take cranberry pills to do the trick. But, yes, you *can* drink too
much water.

I wasn't clear, I meant the peach Fresca and other flavors. We do have
the regular Fresca but it doesn't taste the same as it used to, to me.

if you remember the *original* Fresca, then the present one
won't taste the same. it was originally made with cane sugar &
was not a 'diet' sodapop.

Water intoxication occurs when one takes in water in excess, which
dilutes the electrolytes in the body, particularly sodium. Hyponatremia
(low serum sodium levels) can cause brain swelling and seizures... and
death on occasion. Healthy normal people don't usually drink more than
they can handle, although it isn't unheard of by any stretch. It tends
to be more commonly heard about though in the mentally ill.

Yeah, sort of.One simple rule to remember is that "Water Follows Salt."
Think of low sodium=too much water. Either from inappropriate intake or
inappropriate retention for various reasons.
Conversely, sometimes people lose too much water (brain injury, illness,
drug effects, heat, exercise, yada yada yada) which causes the sodium in
the serum to rise out of normal range because the serum solution is more
concentrated, not that the sodium content has increased. That is called
Hypernatremia. Not as frequently dramatic as hyponatremia, but can be.

(OB Food-Think of your cells as raisins that plump or shrink depending
on water levels. Just like when they dehydrate them or plump them for
cooking)
