OK, I'll bite. A well-known cardiologist is Mehmet Oz, MD. Reference this book/website -- it may say your life! http://www.youonadiet.com/ If a more "official" website it preferred, then here's this one for the same doc: http://asp.cumc.columbia.edu/facdb/p...pAffil=Surgery ---- same as http://tinyurl.com/qfj95 You can also find stuff about Dr. Oz on Oprah's website, too. After I had my Pacer installed, my cardiologist gave me "the talk" about diet. "If it tastes good, SPIT IT OUT" And then we both laughed. <rj> |

He describes himself as a pretty typical Italian eater, and he was told to change. There was no internet for citizens, little published in the popular press about cholesterol and such, so he decided to learn on his own. Learn he did, and when he had finished he published "Don't Eat your Heart Out" (published by Workman Press). The book has three parts: The first part is a discussion of lipids and stuff associated with heart disease. The second are recipes. The third has menus. Open the book from the end for the first reading, and look at a couple of menus. Your reaction may well be, "Hey, this looks like real food!". That will give you the right attitude for starting at the beginning. The book is a bit out of date, but it worked for him, it worked for me, and I recommended the book when I was counseling others as a preventive medicine MD. Now we know about trans fats - he didn't, but what he did know is as true today as it was then. (Except: we know that salt intake doesn't *cause* heart disease. Technically it causes hypertension, and hypertension causes heart disease - what a niggling distinction!) A quick search reveals it is not at University Bookstore in Seattle, but Alibris has it for small cash: http://www.alibris.com/ |

Remember when people (and their doctors) used to worry that coffee was bad for the heart, would give them ulcers, and would make them overly nervous? In excess, coffee can cause problems. But recent research has linked coffee to health benefits, not | Coffee | |||
