I just decided to give it a try and was shocked how good it was. I now make
them like this when ever we have a bunch over for BBQs. Have never made if
for just my wife and me though, couldn't nor would we want to eat that many
beans. g

It comes in a round flat can now. Looks like a jello mold that got
squashed.

We discussed this very thing a few years ago. I asked you back then why
the added sugar and molasses, considering that the standard version is
already obscenely sweet.

Here is what I wrote in a couple of posts in that thread - I could have
written it right now, too, as nothing has changed.

"B&M baked beans can be found here at a Costco-like place, IIRC. I've
never had them. I think there are at least 5 different 'styles'
offered, maybe more. So, am I missing anything in the canned beans
department? Are they any 'better' than the Heinz variety, which
nostalgia sometimes impels me to eat? 'Twas often that I used to eat a
'beef burger' (no buns or anything, just a pattie) with fried egg, chips
(that'd be French... eh... Freedom fries, not to be confused with
dreaded crisps), and baked beans at a university cafeteria many years
ago."

"Extra brown sugar?! You mean they are not already way too sweet? And
the addition of bacon doesn't sound very attractive, either. I doctor
up Heinz beans by cooking them a bit with some mustard, tomato pulp or
ketchup, and sriracha, in order to get them less sweet and a bit more
acidic and spicy. I never add any kind of meat, but I usually eat them
*with* meat of some kind, generally burger patties or frankfurters."

Plus ça change...

They aren't made with red beans to my knowledge. (I should call them and
ask: the factory is about 10 miles from here, in a picturesque spot on Casco
Bay.) There is a kind of beans called something like Jacobs Cattle beans
that are mottled red that I've seen around here, but I think they use pea
beans.

I've had 'em. Same as canned, imo.
