OT - Sick of Being Sick

As I mentioned in another thread or two, I've been sick and haven't
wanted to cook much. It started with a sore throat back on Dec. 14th
that turned into a nasty head cold plus infections of my tonsils, one
ear, and my sinuses, especially behind my eyes of all places! At one
point I looked like I had the world's worst hangover -- I had to close
my eyes so I wouldn't bleed to death. Seriously though, it sucked,
bad. The cold went away eventually, and four antibiotics later, my
eyes and throat are mostly normal, but I'm still fighting the ear
thing.

Miguel (DH) had to do all the cooking and cleaning until just last
week, on top of his full time job. Poor dude! We had been planning
a big family gathering for Christmas, but it wound up being just the
three of us and a roast chicken. I roused myself enough to make the
gravy, which the guys raved over. But basically, I felt like it was
just another Monday. New Year's Eve was better -- we had 14 people
here to celebrate. Again, Miguel did the work (Buddy helped a lot),
and our guests (all family and close friends) brought a good portion
of the food. The main course was a deep fried turkey (Wonderful!),
with various breads and appetizers. I managed to make a plain
cheesecake, fudge (that was sadly overcooked), and some Chex Mix.
Nothing fancy, as everyone knew I wasn't well. I hope you guys all
had happy holidays. :-)

I started my new job last week and it's going very well, and I
finally feel like cooking again! I've been meaning to make Alan's
chicken soup for many weeks now -- Buddy has found that he loves
homemade soups. I also told him we could try the Shire Mushrooms
('shrooms, bacon, and onion) that I noticed while re-reading LOTR
recently (one thing about being sick, you get lots of time to read).
I'm going to plan both of those for next week, I think.

As for foodie type gifts, I got a stick blender, yay! And I finally
have a digitial camera (Fuji Fine Pix A500), so I can start sharing
photos of my cooking with the froup. I just need to RTFM, heh!

Nice to see y'all again... :-)

Re-hi, Jani!

And happy new year!

You described misery! Sorry to hear it. About your ears, has the doctor
cleared out your earwax? What a relief! I do it every other year. Then
followed up with hydrogen peroxide to kill any infection lurking around.
Mom used to make us use it after swimming to prevent "swimmer's ear."

Anyway... welcome back and all the best.

Send food pix! :)

Andy

Yes, I did have him clean out the wax, which as you said, is a great
relief! But there's still an infection, apparently a pretty resistent
one, dang it!

Thank Andy, I'll do that... :-)
