Default My first visit to a Penzey's store !! in Dallas.

I was visiting my daughter and her husband, Tom, in Dallas, and I knew
there was a Penzey's nearby. (They live just off of Walnut Hill
(south on the freeway and right turn on to Walnut Hill, then right at
the corner of Hollow Way). I almost called Modom, because I think he
lives not too far away, and I'd like to meet him some time.
Anyway, back to Penzey's --Between the two of us we did a lot of buying
of spices, and it was such fun to discover spices that I had never
tried before. We each left with a big bag of jars. I'm still sorting
them out. Great fun. You should go if you have the chance.

Among other things, I bought their Pickling Spice, which I will use to
make my Spicy Dills for Christmas presents.

I'll let you know how they turn out.

Cheers,
Nancree

nancree,

I just visited the Penzey's web site and it turns out there is a Penzey's in
Philadelphia about 15 miles from the house. I don't know how long it's been
there.

I'm one of the last r.f.c hold-outs who hasn't shopped there.

Think I'll drop in for a look around.

Thanks,

Andy

It's fun, I had a blast going there up by Boston. I sure wish I lived
close to one. Not gonna happen.

The great thing about Penzey's (aside from the herbs and spices) is they set
out small jars of the stuff so you get to smell it and even taste it before
you buy it. And they hang their little recipe cards all over the place as
suggestions on what to use the herbs and spices in. Oh, and the shop smells
GREAT!

Yup, I live a little moe than an hour from there. What's more I've
gigged frogs at the intersection of Walnut Hill and Central. It
didn't look then like it does now. There was a stream there, for
instance. Then again, LBJ was in the White House last time I gigged a
frog near Walnut Hill Lane in Dallas.

We cleaned the frogs' legs, breaded them with seasoned flour, and my
mom fried them in butter in an iron skillet. They tasted like chicken
marinated in a pond, but somehow good.

-------
That must be the stream that flows through their property. I suppose
it goes under Central now. It has attracted a family of Great Blue
Herons that nests under their stone bridge. For a while a swan lived
there, too. I used to love frogs' legs--haven't had them for years. I
always enjoy your posts--they're some of the best on RFC. Real
suggestions for real food--and good-looking photos, too. And your
mention of condiments, and food combinations, etc. is always
interesting. D must be proud of you.

Cheers, Nancree
