Can someone tell me whether Wombats live only in Australia,
or also on other continents?

Apart from zoos, of course.

I suggest you post to at least one group that's at all interested in
discussing, you know, animals.

I'll give you a hint though: wombats are marsupials.

Another good search site is wikipedia.org... which says...

Wombats are Australian marsupials; they are short-legged, muscular
quadrupeds, approximately one metre (3 feet) in length and with a very short
tail. The name wombat comes from the Eora Aboriginal community who were the
original inhabitants of the Sydney area. Wombats dig extensive burrow
systems with rodent-like front teeth and powerful claws. Although mainly
crepuscular and nocturnal, wombats will also venture out to feed on cool or
overcast days. They are not as easily seen as many animals, but leave ample
evidence of their passage, treating fences as a minor inconvenience to be
gone through or under and leaving distinctive cubic scats. Wombats are
herbivores, their diet consisting mostly of grasses, sedges, herbs, bark and
roots.

So I guess they are native to Australia.

Here's another entry regarding the slang version of the word....

wombat
noun 1. someone who is slow-moving or slow-witted. 2. Car sales a
customer with an unrealistic expectation of how good a deal should be. [from
the stocky marsupial, seen to be slow moving and dull, named from the
Aboriginal language Dharuk]
http://www.macquariedictionary.com.a.../slang-w.html?

So, one could assume, you were actually calling people in the above
newsgroups stupid....

Was that your real intention? Didn't Monty Python like using the word a
lot? It does have a funny ring to it. Are you just trying to be funny or
do you really like Wombats?
