Microwave for 60 seconds. OK, timer on 60 seconds. START, a micro-second
later it's 59 seconds. Set the timer for 61 seconds for 60 seconds of cooking! DOH. This JUST dawned on me. Andy OB: Taquitos ("nuke two for 60 seconds") |

Hell, if that were the case, the recipe would read: If it takes you 30 seconds to get the ingredients from the freezer and into the microwave, cook for X seconds. Since seconds is the lowest resolution of the display it will immediately change to 59 and a non displayed 99 when you push start. |

Peter A, The sad part of the matter is you can't admit you have NO taste. You're obviously not schooled in graphic design. You could have just shut your trap and tried my idea and let us have a look, but you were a jerk to refuse constructive criticism. I advised you months ago, but you said you knew better. What he noticed is that you set a time say "45". When you press start it immediately shows "44". It doesn't mean it will only cook for 44 seconds it simply means internally it has decremented to 44.99 when you pressed start but since it only displays whole seconds it has no way to display that. |

I just tried this here at work. I started the microwave at 60, and it took one second to switch to 59. No doubt microwaves vary, and some could behave the way it was described earlier, but I suspect the premise of the original post was bogus. The 60 second display mark is actually zero (because it hasn't begun to cook yet). For most of the population it's simpler to comprehend displayed cooking time remaining rather than cooking time elapsed. Andy is obviously one of the simple minded... and from reading the responses he has lots of company. Sheldon |

If so, then it *is* nuking for the whole 60 seconds. Let's put it another way: Suppose you set the microwave for *1* second. When you press the Start button, the display turns to zero almost immediately -- but the microwave *did* come on for that one second, right? It doesn't show "1" during that last second, because there's less than one second left; "0" is more accurate. Bob |
