Entenmann's

I just bought an Entenmann's crumb cake from the grocery store; I had
never bought one before. I am not impressed at all with it. The crumb
topping is way too dry and has no flavor and while the cake part is
moist, it has no flavor either. I've heard other people rave about
Entenmann's but I don't think I'll buy any more of their products.

Ah, but have you tried their Ultimate Crumb Cake?!

That's awesome! If you like tons of thick, rich crumbs, get the
Entenmann's Ultimate Crumb Cake. I think it outdoes every other
brand.

Shopping while hungry. Or, guests coming for brunch in 23 minutes and
absolutely no other options.

Entenmann's goes stale very fast. They exchange product almost daily at the
local Kwik-E-Mart in town.

I haven't tried many of their products. The donuts were very dry.

I loved their cheese filled crumb cake and could just about finish the
whole loaf in a sitting it was so good. But it's so rich I had to give it
up.

Actually, after looking at the box again, it was the ultimate crumb
cake that I bought. It was just too floury for my tastes. It needed
more sugar, more butter, more cinnamon, etc.

I was in the supermarket some months back and I was
jonesin' for something cakey. What caught my eye on the
way past the Entenmann's display was a cake that someone
used to buy and bring in to work ... many, many years ago.

Some kind of pineapple loaf cake. I picked it up out of
nostalgia. I'd buy that again if I saw it.

What do you expect from fat-free baked goods?
That's like expecting to enjoy a glass of
non-alcoholic wine or a slice of zero-carb bread.

Get this clear, FAT = FLAVOR. It also provides
rich texture. You can eat for purely healthful
nutritional purposes, or you can eat for pleasure.
Which will it be?

But this wasn't fat free. The whole cake has 130 grams of fat.

I haven't had one in years but while growing up and when they were only
available in the Northeast, we would get them while traveling or friends
would bring them to us. The crumb cake was always wonderful and a
signature item to them, I believe?
I think that the day they expanded to be sold all over, they probably
lost some quality? Now I can get them almost anyplace down south.

Most bakery crumb cakes are like that. My late mother-in-law bought one
every time we came to visit, and they were all dry as dust.

I used to like Drake's when we live in New England, but I have no idea
if they are even still in business.

If you want tasty Entenmann's, try one of their cheese danish
coffeecakes, or one with jam/fruit flavoring.

They used to be good for store bought many years ago but at some point
they turned into another industrial food manufacturer.

Which Entenmann's product one enjoys is personal taste. For many years
I lived within walking distance of the Entenmann's bakery and would
shop at their factory discount store often; cakes for a buck. I wasn't
crazy about their crumb cake either but many of thier products were
very good... my favorite is their devils food chocolate covered donuts,
I could/would eat the entire box at one sitting.

Now the all time ultimate crumb cake was made by Dugan's... alas no
more, not for forty years.

I love pretty much all of the Entenmann's baked goods, especially those
slightly crunchy chocolate-coated donuts. It's partly nostalgia, but I
still think everything they do tastes great with a coffee.

The same thing happened with Freihofer's bakery when they were in Troy,
NY. It was purchased by General Foods in the late 80's and then sold
to some outfit in New Jersey. The quality hasn't been the same
since...

Does anyone else remember the "Freddie Freihofer Show" when it was on
WRGB? :)
I think it was one of the first, if not the first, TV show that was
broadcast in color in the capital district...

else.

Yeah, I was wondering... their fat free stuff says FAT FREE
in huge lettering on the package, and you surely would have
noticed that.

Back when I was on a very low fat diet (something I may
have to do again, soon), I would buy their fat-free chocolate
pound cake. It was not too bad.

I've been told that, in the old days when they were local
out of Brooklyn, their products were really good.

Entenmann's chocolate donuts and their banana nut cake are incredible. I
agree about the crumb cake; its dry and bland, but it is stilly to paint
a company's entire range of products based on only one of them.

Dugan's used to have a delivery route in New Brunswick, New
Jersey in the 40's and we would often get cakes from them.
Great stuff.

I love the raspberry danish. They do another fantastic danish that has
walnuts.

I used to think that too, until I tried an Albertson's brand raspberry
danish - FAR better than Entenmann's! At least twice the filling (Entenmann's
has been getting real stingy with their filling the past few years).
I quit buying Entenmann's now.
