I only watched the opening part of the show, rolled my eyes and then
turned it off. I think this is going to go the way of emeril’s
sitcom. Man the networks must be desperate.

"Unknown" is actually comic writer Jack Handey. This is one of his

A couple of computers ago, I bookmarked a web site that had a Deep

It's not a "variation". The "punchline" is what makes it a Jack
Handey "quote" (joke).

Here's no joke - according to a recent survey, RR is SECOND on the list
of "most trusted" entertainment personality, right behind Tom Hanks.
Who ARE these people that answer these surveys???? And who cares????

The current NewYorker has an article by Bill Buford (he recently
published HEAT : AN AMATEUR'S ADVENTURES AS KITCHEN SLAVE, LINE-COOK,
PASTA-MAKER, AND APPRENTICE TO A DANTE-QUOTING BUTCHER IN TUSCANY) on
the FOOD NETWORK. Haven't had a chance to read it, yet.

Apropos, as that's about the time period in which
Sheldon developed his social skills.

It's interesting. I've seen Rachel Ray once. She seems to do extremely basic
things for people who can't cook, and make a big deal about it. I don't get
it, frankly.

I read the New Yorker article. As a poor ignorant Aussie I found it very
interesting, since people in rfc are always banging on about Food TV,
which turns out to be an actual pay-TV channel, and Rachael Ray in
particular, who I had mistakenly concluded was some sort of comic parody
of cooking shows. Anyway, I have now been set right. Apparently what
it's all about is selling things.

It *is* about cooking, which is what rfc is about.

In the US, if one has cable or satellite, one can buy a package of
channels, some of which include Food Network.

> and Rachael Ray in

She is unbelievably prolific, appearing for several hours a day on Food
Network on many different shows.

That's Sandra Lee, at least IMNSHO. Rachael is very serious about her
cooking.

Everything in the US is about selling things. Rachael is no worse than
any other TV star. Food Network sells commercials. Rachael sells
various products that she endorses.

Prolific doesn't mean she's any good at what she does. She just does
it louder and in a more obnoxious manner than most. She's the epitome
of dumbing down in this country.

Then why does she force upon us that Quasimodo giggle and all the
"YUM-OH"s and EVOOs and "I used to be a fountain girl"s, ad nauseam.
Nothing there says serious to me. She's an idiot who talks a lot more
than she needs to.

Huh? I don't see Tony Shalhoub out there hawking anti-bacterial soaps,
or Jerry Springer trying to push shoe inserts to make walking/dancing
easier, or Jeff Probst telling us about one sunscreen or another. You
got a jones for that bubble-butt, whiskey-plus-2 packs-a-day-voiced
wonder?

That's ridiculous advice. It's not the watching that is so bad, it's
the listening.

Point at anyone in the ng who is obsessed with posting about her for
starters. They need to get a life of their own so they will not have
to resort to putting RR down to salve their ****-poor egos.

While I don't think Nigella rocks, I do think Nigella (more
importantly, Ina Garten) are polar opposites.

Everything on all media is about selling things.

Only some of them have realized it and that it makes
