Default Pan Yan Pickle

Pan Yan Pickle

or Makeee Learneee Pan Yan (It is 40 years since I tasted the real thing
but this is "reminiscent" for me) There have been numerous requests for the
"right" recipe in newsgroups so I wanted to try.

It is a nice pickle in it's own right anyway!!

Mince or process - not to mush:

1lb Hard Green Apples, cored but not peeled
1 lb Green Tomatoes
1 lb Dates
1 lb Sultanas
2 cloves Garlic
1 Med Onion
1 Dessertspoon Coarse Pickling Salt

Stir all together and put in a colander in the sink to drain for 10 minutes.

Add 1 1/2 cups of malt vinegar, 1 lb soft brown sugar, and 2-3 teaspoons
of Madras curry powder.

Bring to a hard boil for 15 minutes. Decant into hot jars filling to within
1/8" of the top and screw the lids on tight.

Store in a cool place and eat within 6 months.
