Interesting list, Mordechai. Saved and printed for the kitchen. Thanks
for posting!

So, does anyone have any praises or condemnations about the list?

Lots of good information. I noticed that one of them had the name
Martin Kathan. He has written several diet books and a recipe book
that was published in 1994. I am guessing that the lists came from
him. I cannot find my copy of the book right now to check.

It could be. I no longer recall, since I first got these some time
around the early nineties, when I still had a memory. Or at least I seem
to recall that I had a memory once upon a time. I no longer remember for
sure. ;)

[snip the rest]

Like the other list, this is a useless grab bag, no better than
grabbing bottles at random from your spice cupboard. Are all 14 things
listed for asparagus equally good? Do they all appear in some classic
recipe or other? Can't I bake with, say, vanilla? Does no one but me
like thyme with beef? Useless. -aem

Huh? What about chili powder? That's what I put in my artichoke water
when simmering them. Excellent combination. Or garlic? Onion maybe?

Okay, is it just me or does anyone else find these sorts of lists to
be kind of limiting? Heck, half of these items aren't even "spices"
anyway. Bacon? Cheese? This is just weird...

Hm. Will have to try some of this. Generally, I steam/boil them plain,
then dip them in butter (or, rarely, mayo). Last night, I dipped them
in the butter sauce from the scallops (butter, lemon, garlic) and that
was pretty good.

I usually dip mine in mayo with garlic powder -- in this case I
find fresh garlic to be too strong. One of these days I might put
some cloves of garlic in my water though, just to try it.

Oooh, that does sound good! I don't make artichokes often, as DH
doesn't care for them. But Buddy (DS - 9) is coming around... :-)
