Default Is shrimp bad for diabetics with hypothyroidism?

I'm curious if eating shrimp is bad for a diabetic who is also is taking
thyroid medication for hypothyroidism....something about too much iodine.
Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

This looks like a complicated issue. I don't like shrimp, so it's something
I'd never thought about. But here's a link:

I don't care. I eat 'em about once a month, I doubt I'll be upping my iodine
input too much at those levels.

Nicky.

I know what you mean. I also love clams and muscles. I suppose having them
in moderation can't hurt.

Julie, thanks for the link about iodine. Couldn't find anything about
seafood, but then again I didn't read it in ites entirety. Appreciate it
though.

The author did mention seafood, stating that there probably isn't enough
iodine in it to matter.

That's probably true. I am allergic to iodine, but have no problem with any
kind of seafood except mussels.

The allergy was discovered when I had an iodine contrast study done at the
hospital some years ago. The radiologist asked if I was allergic to
shellfish prior to injecting the iodine. After I recovered from the allergic
reaction, they asked me why I had lied!

Yikes! One of my friends has a seafood allergy. Took her a long time to
figure out why she kept getting sick. Until one day she was sick enough to
go to the ER and they figured it out for her. Her boyfriend at the time was
a chef and liked making seafood in some form almost every night.

Yeah, but dietary cholesterol has minimal effect on serum cholesterol,
so who cares?

|HTH

From what I've read recently you may need up-date your reading - both
on the level of cholesterol in seafoods and the effect that dietary
cholesterol may have on blood cholesterol levels.
