How was the diet in the hospital? Assuming you could eat anything. I know when I had pneumonia all I wanted to do was sleep. |

Hi all
Sorry to hear that Evelyn, hope you recuperate fast. Was it viral or
bacterial? "Evelyn" > wrote in message ... > > > I have been away sick with pneumonia. Was in the hospital all last > week. I am just catching up now. > > Best to all, > Evelyn |

I don't know for sure whether it was viral, but I am pretty certain it was. I have had a pneumonia shot a couple of years ago, but this particular bout of bronchitis went "bad" right away, even though I had no fever, I was very sick, even still now, a full two weeks plus since the whole illness began. The food in the hospital was decent, if only because I was too sick to prepare any food for myself at home, and it was edible, and was brought to me. Lots of carbs though. What on earth are these hospital dieticians thinking?????? Carbs and more carbs. Then they will give you a shot to justify the elevation in blood sugar. I got around it by having hubby bring me food when he visitied. They treated me with antibiotics and steroids and breathing treatments in the hospital. I was so sick, so short of breath, and so weak, that I was grateful for whatever was done. Lungs full of glue, unable to breathe, even with the oxygen. Biggest problem for me was that they couldn't find my veins. I had to be stuck repeatedly while they blew all the few good veins, and then messed up a couple of smaller ones to boot. Then the IV they manage to get started after multiple sticks doesn't last for more than a day anyway. Nowadays they give you blood thinners when you are in bed in the hospital, and it makes you bleed quite readily. I was grateful to be able to get care, but the best part was coming home and showering in my own house. I think that only just the last two days I am finally getting my lungs cleared out, and feeling a tad more human, but still very weak. Evelyn |

Yay! Fortunately for me, I have never really been a smoker for my whole life. Just a couple of years as a teenager, and then not very much either. I think this would have absolutely killed me if I had been. This was the worst case of pneumonia ever. I had it before and was able to deal with it better. This time not so. Evelyn |

Put on weight if you lost a lot, that will help get some strength back[0]|. You were hit hard when a bronchitis turned to full bacterial pneumonia, no wonder you felt terrible. BjÞrn [0] during a hospital stay when I was a teenager I lost so much weight that I could hold around my thighs. When I could get out of bed I walked stairs. Not sure I could do that today :-) |
