I love popcorn and havnt had it since dx...im going to try this weekend try
a cup of cooked popcorn with lots of butter..lol.

The total carbs will be like 12 which i usally can tolerate fine no problem
and the butter and oil its popped in im hoping will help as well.

I am of course going to test test test to see where i am at with it.

Anyone else here able to do popcorn?

I know i cant do kettle corn again..lol..but i'd be happy with a small
serving of reg time to time.

3 cups of popped popcorn is a serving or 15 g of carbs. I used to be able
to eat it with no problems until I started the insulin. We'd go to the
movies and I'd have popcorn for breakfast. Or if we went later in the day,
I'd bring a small baggie and take some out of Angela's bucket. I would also
eat it for a bedtime snack. I did this for years!!! Now it doesn't work
for me at all. I had a small amount at the movies. Like a handful, and my
numbers were too high. Have tried it twice for a snack since the insulin
and it spiked me. Grrr...

My son left a small pack of popping corn behind after a
recent visit, so I've tried it a couple of times recently.
Never made it before. About a tablespoon (flat) makes a
cupful, so I tried that with no spikes as a snack.

My only problem is that I'm doing something wrong, because a
lot of them only half-pop and are hard in the centre. Tips?

Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.

Great!
I know its a fairly low cal snack...just gotta count the fats used to pop
it..

My fav way to eat popcorn is with fresh ultra fine grated parm chese on
it..yum..even the stuff in the can is good..just gotta make sure its full of
carby fillers to keep it from stickign tho as most chese in america has
now...

As for getting less kernals..well i used to make popcorn all the time..my
fav secret is using olive oil and butter to pop it..it makes the popcorn
very buttery tasting...i later learned this was a old theater trick to make
thiers buttery at a cheaper then butter cost.

What i do is put the butter and oil and corn in a tall pot with a lid and
handles..like a dutch oven style stew pot with a clear see thru lid and i
put the lid on it right off building up heat and steam in the pot which
makes it pop nice...i sorta stir it too as it goes keeping the kernals
moving in the oil.

as they pop i shake the container holding the lid on with a pot holder to
really make sure that the popped stuff stays on top and the kernals near the
fire to pop.

Works for me i rarely get too many unpopped.

How are ya poppin' 'em, mate?

µwave should be on high power and you should run it continuously 'til you
only hear one pop every second or two. Stove top is more fun!

Cheers.

I occasionally (maybe once ever week or two) will microwave one of the 100
calorie packs and have it for a late night snack. Net carbs 16 and I've
never tested following I'm ashamed to say. However, I love popcorn and I
eat it late because it seems to be one of those things I can eat before bed
that significantly drops my FBG for the following morning. I still have a
problem with that.

I can in the afternoon sometimes, though it's a small amount. I put 2
TBS in a brown paper bag, and just pop in the microwave, listen
carefully so it doesn't burn. I've found that more than 2 TBS usually
burns, so I only do 2TBS. I give it a quick spray with with butter
flavored spray, and a bit of salt. Satisfying for the occasional urge.

Sometimes. It seems to be a borderline thing for me - sometimes it
triggers carb cravings. I air-pop it and generally toss in olive oil
and seasoning.

Hmmm..that might work for me too as a before bed snack..giving my gut
somthing to work on as i sleep because my las a1c was 6 even tho i rarely go
above 90 in the day so i can only imagine im liver dumping at night..my
fasting will rise if i dont eat at the right time.

I didn't stop taking the Metformin and Amaryl. And I am on max doses. I do
not know that different insulins would do any differently. But I'm no
expert.

The insulin didn't *still* leave me in the 300's. Prior to using it, I very
rarely got numbers that high. I was taking Januvia as well that I thought
did nothing but perhaps it did. My numbers were still too high though.

Air popping is nasty. I was given a gift of an air popper when they first
came out. It had a little heating chamber for butter and it got all gunked
up. The popped corn was sooo dry, when you tried to put butter on it, the
butter sank right in so some spots were greasy and the rest was dry. And
you had to put butter or the salt wouldn't stick! Worse yet was the mess it
made, hurling kernels all over the kitchen that would pop mid-air.

Nah, this beast is very civilised - you add dry kernels, it moves them
around in a hot air stream (no wastage) and spits them out into a bowl
where you add flavourings of your choice.

I use dto make air popped, much less mess sthan stove top. I woudl use a
spray of oil on it afterwards before seasoning it either sweet(cinnamon
and splenda) or savory(parmesan cheese, herbs of the moment, etc. I loved
it, but have difficulty with it now.
