For me it was usually (but not always) shakes, an inability
to properly control my limbs, a feeling of
vertigo/nausea/dizziness.

I only went unconscious once, and that was before diagnosis.
The best post-diagnosis was when I was in the middle of the
pool and suddenly couldn't swim. But I made it to the side
somehow.

I can't recall having one in the past couple of years; in
fact they've been rare since I added metformin three years
back.

Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.

Well, I haven't had any of those symptoms, yet, but I'll watch out for
them. I've never passed out, but have had to crawl or be dragged to bed a
few times! LOL

I won't hit you over the head <vbg>

We use La Tortilla Factory brand "Smart & Delicious" tortillas. The
"original" whole wheat ones. each small tortilla contains 10 grams of
carbs and 7g of dietary fiber. That leaves 3 grams to count. You could
eat 5 of these and they would count as one "carb count" of 15g.

www.latortillafactory.com They are made in California, but I believe
they are sold all over the US. Mission makes low carb tortillas, too,
but I like the La Tortilla Factory ones better for sandwich wraps. The
Mission white flour ones work a little better for enchiladas.

I use the tortillas as wraps for eggs and heat & eat turkey sausage for
breakfast. I like tuna salad or chicken salad wrapped in one of them
with some lettuce and a little tomato for lunch. (I can't eat bread so
tortillas are the only way I can make a sandwich.)

They make wonderful soft tacos and enchilladas.

Get the smaller ones, not the giant ones as the larger ones have more carbs.

You can eat well as a Diabetic. You just have to eat differently.

Even 1 Sara Lee mini bagel is 21 grams of carbs!

I think, as Wendy mentioned in her post, that it has something to do
with caves and sticks and hunting. At least for my husband. Nick is
obviously happy to allow Jun to use his fire, and Alan S makes it
sound romantic.

I have to admit, though, Rob's a good grill cook. Back before I was
diabetic, he decided to make a burrito on the grill. Wrapped the
ingredients in a tortilla and put it on the fire. I thought he was
nuts, but it was the best burrito I ever had!

I only find the Mission large low car tortillas which have 10 grs
effective carbs(net fiber). they are very big, so one does just fine for
a sanadwich or a faux pizza.

But can't eat that venison and rabbit, so what's the point:-)

We had a friend on our road who used to get a bow and arrow permit, a doe
ermit and a regular huting liscense so he could get 3 deer, have a friend
butcher them neatly and fill his freezer for the winter. He didn't even
hang around with the guys for that, just went out locally(Catskill Park
area) and took his deer.

They can vary and like I said in my other reply, sometimes there are none.
This can be scary because you don't always think clearly when you have a
hypo. I've had one, gone into the kitchen for candy or other food, then
spaced out and forgotten why I went in there. Sometimes I wind up crying as
I'm putting away dishes, or washing dishes or whatever else I can see that
needs done, never realizing I need food until I see it. One I passed out on
the fridge. Literally in the fridge. I opened it up, then tried to crawl
inside. That's how bad the brain can get when you're having one.

For me, if I do get symptoms they can really vary. Might get light headed,
see spots or bright colors swirling around overhead. I might start laughing
or saying silly things. Acting drunk. If I am typing, I make a ton of
typos and don't realize it. Or I realize it but am unable to do anything
about it. My legs can turn to rubber. I can feel sick to my stomach, or
get a headache. Get really dizzy. Sometimes pass out. Get all hot and
cold at the same time, breaking out in a sweat. I might feel super hungry,
and or crave sweet foods. Or worse yet, I will refuse food when someone
else attempts to give it to me. I will know I am hungry but will get
adamant and say it is not time for me to eat. Sometimes I can get really
snappish and surly to those around me. Might have one or more of those
symptoms or none at all.

I describe my DH's activity at the grill as "sending up burnt offerings
to the great god Barbecue"

I prepare the foods to be grilled and he cooks them. Our gas grill is
huge, a six burner stainless steel monster with a side burner on one end
and an ice well on the other. I have named it "Grillzilla" Since I have
the ability to light only one side, I have been using it as a smoker,
too. I got some great advice at alt.food.barbecue, too. Most of the
folks there are nice. There are always Usenet exceptions.

Your grill has a distaff side and refuses to be lit on the
other side by you? You really do have sophisticated BBQ's
over the-)

Or being Canadian, does it come in Le BBQ and La BBQ types?

Mine is an equal opportunity BBQ which will light up with a
happy whoosh either way...

I know that you know that I really was kidding, Jaye. A good swift kick in
the butt is good for me when I'm slacking!

I'll hafta ask my daughter to look for those La Tortilla Factory brand
"Smart & Delicious" tortillas. The "original" whole wheat ones. Thanks for
the tip.

I think you whooshed me, Alan.

Our grill has 6 burners and each one lights individually. If I light two
or three burners on the right side of the grill, I can cook food over
indirect heat on the left side.

I usually get the shakes and have a problem keeping focus, sometimes get
pretty grouchy...walked out in front of a car once...thank goodness it was
in a parking lot and the guy was driving slow, he probably thought I was
nuts. I am on Metformin so don't go hypo often , but that day I had fasting
blood tests, and had errands to run while in town and forgot to eat, so by 4
in the afternoon I was feeling pretty lousy Never did that again.
