In a word, no. There are so many factors: Type 1 or type 2? How is he
treating it? What other health issues does he have going on? Does he
have weight loss as a goal? Is he physically active? If he's type 2,
when during the day is his insulin resistance highest? How are his
numbers running? What are his goals for his BG: fasting, at 1 and 2
hours post prandial? How does he personally respond to various foods?

This is why we recommend the information at this URL to people with type
2: http://www.alt-support-diabetes.org/NewlyDiagnosed.htm

If he's type 1, he may well find helpful information at the ADA site,
which is geared towards type 1 diabetics.

Priscilla, type 2

No. There is no one diet we all follow. You might try a dietician. But
keep in mind that will be only a starting point. The diet you are given may
or may not work for you.

Sumaya,
Both Priscilla and Julie are correct. There is no one "diabetic diet."
I strongly suggest that your husband schedule an appointment with a
registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator in your local
areara. In addition to the factors previously mentioned a dietitian
will consider your husbands ethnic background and food preferences
when designing his individual meal plan.

If your husband enjoys food from the American South or Caribbean you
might find my book "Eating Soulfully and Healthfully with Diabetes"
very helpful. You can get more information at www.eatingsoulfully.com
The book is available anywhere online as well as all bookstores.

Healthy regards,
Eating Soulfully!

Constance, if you wish to spam here and advertise your book
- please go away. This is an excerpt from our charter:

"It is not intended that this group would carry commercial
messages, binaries or HTML."

If you have the courage to openly write, free for us all to
read, your views and recommendations as a "a nationally
recognized nutritionist, registered dietitian, and certified
diabetes educator" and the ability to keep your temper as we
respond and debate with you and ask you to provide factual
and checkable support for your comments - then welcome.

You will find my own views here;
http://loraldiabetes.blogspot.com/20...thorities.html
You can read there and ignore any ads - but I can't ignore
your book price and still get to read it. I (and I'm sure,
many others here) would be happy to debate those views with
you openly and without charge on this forum.

Cheers, Alan, T2, Australia.

Pardon me and my ignorance. I was doing a search and somehow landed
hear. It's obvious I didn't read the fine print
I saw the question and what I thought were other URLs to various
sites. As a matter of fact it took me a while to come back here - I
couldn't find it. Of course having never done this before (posted a
comment) I was curious to find out if anyone would read/respond. Wow
did you!

This is another lessson learned for me - don't step into other peoples
conversation when you weren't invited. That said, I will accept your
invitation to share my views and have an open and honest debate. As
for controlling my temper - I'm naturally a very even tempered person.

BTW- I wasn't trying to hide. When I signed in I was asked for a nick
name - so I thought that was the protocol.

Healthy regards,
Constance - Eating Soulfully!
