Default Opinions on Cabela Commercial-Grade Food Slicers

The subject line says it all.

I'm interested in these units, but I'm trying to get some opinions on
them before I jump in. I could go for a straight commercial unit, but
I'll mainly be using it for jerky and personal meat processing, so I
don't need quite that much. I'd also have to spend an extra $100-$150
for a smaller machine (Cabela's 12" is $400, versus a Berkel 9" that
runs $500-$550). You can see Cabela's units at
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...jsp?id=0032302

As an FYI, I've had or tried several home units, but they just don't
have much oomph to handle more than 5 minutes or so of slicing before
they act like they want to die (or in some cases did).

Any comments from owners or users would be greatly appreciated. Also,
if anyone has any recommended alternatives, I'm all-ears...

Finally, to be clear I am in no way affiliated with the company or this
product line - just a conscientious shopper looking for comments.

Thanks!

Daniel

First of all, like Sears or Wal-Mart Cabelas doesn't manufacture anything.
Do a web search & find a similar item & go from there.
I do a lot of shopping at Cabelas(usually the Owatonna store) & looked there
first when I was shopping for my food slicer(http://tinyurl.com/877y2 ) I
ended up buying the Rival (same slicer http://tinyurl.com/9a7jc) for $20
less at my local Ace store. Same slicer different brand label. Look for the
same one at Amazon or elsewhere. That being said you can sometimes get a
real bargain at Cabelas, if not at least its fun to shop there.

I appreciate your input, but one of the problems I've had is that I
have been thoroughly unable to locate another equivalent to the Cabela
units (the unit you displayed via your URLs is their smaller unit; I'm
looking for their much larger commercial-like ones that have 10-12"
blades).

I can find commercial units, and I can find Rival and Chef's Choice
units (and even Chef's Choice larger units are a bit smaller than I
want), but I can't find anything in between other than these, in any
brand or non-brand name.

I know the Cabela units are an OEM Chinese import, but I haven't been
able to track down other similar units on the Web that are for sale
(I've only find importer sites for wholesalers of such products). If
you know of anything similar, I'd appreciate some suggestions

Thanks!

Daniel

You might want to check your area for a restaurant supply house that
deals in used equipment. You can probably get a used true commercial
unit in that price range, perhaps even made somewhere other than China.

There are many on ebay also. A good commercial one used is going to be
better than the smaller home units.
