New gas range smokes when first turned on
I just installed a new GE gas range in my kitchen. After a couple of
minutes of it being on, a metallic smelling smoke starts to plume up from the top of the oven. Is this normal? Is there a "burn in" (no pun intended) period? If so, how long? Any help is greatly appreciated. Dave |

But that said, it would not surprise me at all if certain parts of the interior were coated with materials to prevent rust etc. If such coatings were not completely removed, they might have an odor when heated. You said "range", but does are you talking about an oven? If so, does it have a self cleaning cycle? If it does, you might consider opening a window or two, starting the self clean cycle, and going out to catch a movie. All the best, -- Kenneth If you email... Please remove the "SPAMLESS." |
