Mine is reliable. It's never been used in 15 years. I'll sell it.

My trashmen won't pick up compacted trash. Something about it blocking the
garbage truck's own compactor.

Geez, does it ever occur to you to THINK before responding.

There is absolutely nothing that you cannot do without a trash compactor
except for the pointless task of compacting trash.

Without a TV you cannot watch the news, videos of the grandkids, old
movies, documentaries, nature shows, SpongeBob, and (important for some
of us) fishing shows.

Our neighbor pulled their's out to the curb and replaced it with a
wine cooler. Don't remember the manufacturer...but they are
specifically made to fill the spot where that 1970's gadget was
installed.

I think that is a good idea and was going to do it myself; Only
problem for us is that I (we) drink at least 95% red wines and I don't
care to spend money to cool white. We don't keep red wine to
temperature except in the coolest room downstairs, so a cooler is a
waste of money for us, but one would surely look nice.

Musing:
However, it is just sitting there for years and I'm used to the space
being used for nothing. We called in a cabinet guy to ask about
changing it to cabinet space' but of course, the job was too small and
he never called us back. I gave up at that time.

I had thought of using it for some sort of storage as it was clean and
never been used, but it is too cumbersome to pull back and forth. If
I do store something in it, I'd probably forget I ever put it there.

Why sure, Peter. As a matter of fact, I even think before hitting the "send"
button. One of the things I think about is whether or not my post answers the
thread's question in any way, rather than simply reflecting my miserable,
curmudgeonly personality.

Your "pointless task" might be of considerable value to someone who lives in a
cramped apartment, condo, or townhouse, and has only once-a-week trash pick-up.
I've never had or needed one, but, unlike you, I'm not so quick with knee-jerk
criticism of someone who might think he does.

Leaving aside SpongeBob and fishing shows, anyone who gets his news from
television is pretty pathetic -- and necessarily ill-informed.

After so many years of exposure to you, I wouldn't be surprised if your kids and
grandkids could think of another somewhat unique application for a trash
disposal...

I am sorry - I did not realize how important your trash compactor is to
you, and how much your ego and identity are tied up in that appliance.
You say you don't have one, which I do not believe, but if that is true
then your response is even stranger.

That you resort to personal attacks including my children and (not yet
existant) grandchildren over an appliance says it all.

There's that reading comprehension shortcoming again -- I didn't say one

Cool your reds to 57F. Remember that was room temperature in most
cellars. Cooled makes an incredible difference. Open a
bottle...pour half out and cool the other half. Have a blind taste
test with friends and let them decide. We enjoy the cooler temps
now.

Sorry,,, a bit of a giggle here....thinking how effective a blind taste test
will be considering one choice will be at room temp and the other will be
chilled. Even *I* would be able to tell the difference right off and I'm not
the sharpest knife in the drawer some days :-)

Yes, DH and I do blind tests on wine. It's fun.
But this test would be sorta like doing a test on ice cream, 1) as it
goes into the refrigerator to cool 2) just before it goes into the ice
cream maker 3) as it comes out of the ice cream maker to go into the
freezer; i.e., soft ice cream; 2) when it has been frozen to desired
hardness.

I KNOW they would taste different.

But, thanking for your advice; I still prefer red wines a little
warmer than 57. Wonder what the temperature is from the shepherds'
bota bags? Perhaps mamma puts a little ice in before they
leave? ;-))
