Default Ceramic Glass Cooktop Cleaner

OK - can some chemist out there tell me what that wonderful Ceramic
Glass cooktop cleaner they provide for smooth cooktops is made of? It
is mighty expensive and was wondering if anyone knows of an
alternative. It definately makes spills dissolve and leaves a nice
shine, but I was wondering if there are other options?
thanks y'all

I bought a gallon of Permatex "Fast Orange Hand Cleaner Cream" as soon
as I figured that it was a near clone of Cerama Bryte. Works fine on my
glass top range.

Barkeeper's Friend is the cheapest alternative I've found. But there are many
generic glass stovetop cleaners popping up all over the place as they become
more popular.

Just be careful if you have adjacent granite or marble countertops -- Windex is
a definite no-no for them, according to the brochure distributed with the stone.

Huh!? I can sort of see it with marble, I think Windex has a bit of acid
content that would attack marble, but I doubt it would hurt granite. I
think the acid level is *very* low, so even with marble you'd have to
practically submerge the counter in the stuff daily for years to have
much effect. Just my opinion.

Kate,
I found these on another site:

Elco Cook Top Cleaner

Weiman Cook Top Cleaner

Bar Keepers Friend

Cook Top brand cleaner from Sears

Cerama Bryte glass-ceramic cooktop cleaner from your friendly Home
Depot.

Cheers,
Doc
