boiling water?
 
a friend advises not to make instant coffee with boiling water,but to let
the kettle stand 4 to5 minutes first.anyone advise?

I would advise you not to make instant coffee :-). When I have made
instant coffee, I haven't noticed the difference between using boiling
water and using water which has cooled a little. But I think it does
make a difference with real coffee.

Coffee extracts best at about 190-200 degrees fahrenheit. Boiling
water on the stove in a pot requires about a 30-second wait for my
french press. My espresso machine is set at about 205. I dunno how
long an enclosed tea kettle needs to wait, but surely it's ready sooner
than 4-5 minutes.

Instant coffee sucks.
