Gee, thanks for that Jason, it's so greatly appreciated -- I'm really
glad you feel that way.

I've worked many Stone fundraisers since the first one in 2001 and I'm a
pretty generous guy. I have met, and like, your brother and his lovely
wife and am friends with a lot of the folks on BA.

I've never met you, but when and if I do I have a feeling I'm not going
to like you.

Tell ya what, Jason -- I'll make it a charity auction -- when the
auction is over you put up any amount of money up to the full selling
price of the bottle -- as soon as Chris or Greg confirms that you've
made the contribution, I'll match it!

ALD. How much have you given? I'd guess your contribution is
right up there with mine at $0. Which makes me wonder why you
could possibly care.

> if not this guy should burn in hell.

An eternity of agony for re-selling a fund-raiser item...Yeah,
that's appropriate. But it is OK to drink it? I mean, you
know, you're going to **** it out. Sounds the height of
disrespect to me.

"Up to" includes the number 0. Please amend.

I don't think I'll amend it -- it's put up or shut up time for him.
Bottom line is that there are probably thousands of collectible items
sold on ebay that were originally manufactured and sold to raise money
for charity, research, etc. It's a truly absurd notion to expect that
the resale of these items, when they've become collectible, requires the
seller to donate "all of the money ... to the correct charity." I think
he's ****ed at me for putting the bottle up on ebay but he's either
hiding the real reason or he doesn't really know why he got ****ed and
is reacting with the first thing that popped into his head. Or maybe
he's just trolling.

But, the dude threw down a gauntlet and I'm a very generous guy who has
given freely to Stone's causes before so I'm picking it up -- I'll match
him dollar for dollar up to the full selling price of the bottle. Let's
see if he's willing to put his money where his mouth is.

Whoring your wares in newsgroups is trolling IMO ... I was just trying to
call this out and it seemed to work. I raised a substantial amount from
Sawyer's Tripel at one of our fests and then BA matched it again. Not ****ed
.... just happy I have a delete button on BA.

Cheers and good luck with the charity auction!!

Whoring?

I think I've contributed enough to this particular NG over the past
years that the occasional clearly labeled FA: post is not uncalled for.
As for you, all you to is repeat endless newsfeeds that ant of us who
are interested alrteady saw a week previously just so you can put your
****ing .sig at the end. Talk about whoring.

Respect beer??????????

How about showing some respect for people who drink it.

Well, bully for you.

However, consider that your arrogant and pompous attitude (IMO, Mr. Benzel
has no obligation to contribute anything to the charity as the second
seller) is probably doing more to turn people OFF of your website than
drawing people TO it. There are ways you could have raised the question of
charity giving in the case of the resale of charity-fundraising
collectibles--which is actually a reasonably fair topic for debate--without
effectively "telling" someone else what to do with his money.

After that last round of uncalled-for arrogance, I'm removing the bookmark
for BeerAdvocate from my computer. Folks, consider Pubcrawler.com and
RateBeer.com as alternatives. And I would be remiss if I didn't call
attention to the Brewing News line of "brewspapers" and the related website.

Thanks for the backup, Mr. Mitchell. Unfortunately there are a number
of members of BA who are personal friends of mine -- actually I finally
joined BA a few weeks ago simply because of the growth of those
friendships and acquaintances and finding out that these people check
their BA mailboxes about 100 times as frequently as their regular email,
so, while it's not a necessity for me, being part of that RL community
sort of dictates that I maintain a role in that virtual community as
well.

The site is funded by donations.

Now that REALLY gives me a lot to think about.

BTW, I found the RateBeer crew at the recent Pizza Port Real Ale
festival to also be a great bunch of folks -- spent a little time at
their table exchanging tastes from rare bottles and enjoyed every minute
of it.

I just donated more than the final price of the Sawyer's bottle.
I could have donated it to BA but I thought that this was a bit more
worthy:

Care to match me?

I'm surprised. You'd think he'd pony up the money right away, which
would be immediately followed by yet another round of begging for money
on BA.
