Default Options for buying a grill

Hi!

I am looking for a new BBQ and am not sure what to buy. My budget is
about $500 +/- $100 (cdn). I usually grill for about 4 people and
sometimes more.

I have looked at several but not sure what to do. I looked at all
stainless steel bbqs though expensive can turn yellow after a few
years. They are a little harder to clean as well.

I was looking at an alluminium one as well. They do not rust till the
coating peels off.

In your opinion which is the best grill to buy for 5-600 range?

Thanks for your help,

Shavak

Hard to go wrong with a Weber. Vermont Castings is also a good choice, but
some models are apparently made offshore and have been reported to suffer in
quality.

Your post suggests you are looking for a gas grill. The Weber Silver Genesis
B should probably be your choice in that price range, as many on this NG
will agree. The lesser expensive Chinese SS grills may be OK, but they may
not, and you have no way of knowing that in advance.
Good luck with your quest.

ok, I created a url for the posts *only* in afb dedicated to
gassers. I have it logged for future questions. Just putting
it out there in case anyone else would care to use it in the
future.

You got one for discussion about the weather? That would come in

Smart. Once you're redirected, append " insubject:recommendation" to the
search expression to fine-tune your results.

Excellent idea. How about going ahead and doin' that and
then just cutting the url into http://tinyurl.com and post
the shorter link back.

I'd do it but I've been goin' for about 16 hours now and
need some quality time with my mattress. ;-)

The Vermont Castings [just a few bucks over Shavak's budget], is made
in Canada .[I suspect at the Fiesta plant - as Fiesta bought VC a few
years ago]. I've compared [with the idle curiosity of a Kamado
Driver], the VC & a similar Weber and concluded that I would buy VC.
It's carried by Home Depot so that is where my dissatisfaction, if
any, would be directed to.

There is actually a grilling forum, set up exactly for people to
discus grilling. Not a lot of real BBQ talk there, either.

http://www.grillforum.com/que/queboard/

But it's monitored/moderated since it is a privately owned, publically
used forum. Subjected to the rules and regulations set forth in the
Faq section. Maybe many of those "people" posting here wouldn't like
the rules over there???

All moderated groups basicall die, unless the moderator agrees to stay in
his casket. Even then, he/she has ultimate control.

You have a very bad habit of overstating things. Someone should tell
ALL the members of ALL these moderated groups that ALL the groups are
dead or soon will be.

<http://groups.google.com/groups/dir?q=moderated&hl=en&sel=33554433&qt_d=Directory+ Search>

Groups 1-15 of 5620.

talk.origins

linux.kernel

rec.guns

And so on . . .

Yes, Kent. That's why the groups are called "moderated." See how that
works?

PS: Which moderated groups did you get banned from?

I'll stand corrected then... A couple of years ago when I was grill
shopping, I looked at the VC that HD had. The research I did at that time
suggested it was made in China, and there was some criticism of the quality.
Of course all of this input was anecdotal, and I know VC is a well trusted
brand.

Default Options for buying a grill

How about the Ducane? It is a bit more expensive but less than Weber
is. We would want to have a sideburner as well.

I saw this at home depote today:

http://www.ducane.com/product/Grills...plid=13&mid=22

It is about $800 cdn which is more than my budget but if it last twice
as long as the broilmate $400 model then I guess I could fork up the
extra cash but is it worth it?

Is buying stainless steel bbq worth it? I guess it won't rust but have
anyone of you seen it turn yellow over time?

Broilmate:
http://www.homedepot.ca/webapp/wcs/s...2552-broilmate

What is your opinion on this?

Thanks,

Shavak

I was waiting for someone at HD last week and noticed all the 'made in
Canada' stickers on the VCs. They might have come from China in prior
years, though.

And another 5615 groups. Doesn't make Kent any less wrong, but that's
hardly a surprise.

I wonder which moderated groups he got spanked out of?

As you may or may not know, Ducane is now owned by Weber. Ducane has a rep
for durable no-nonsense grills, but the SS model at HD is not Ducane
USA-built, but rather a licensed branded Chinese-made grill. I can't say
whether that's good or bad, but it is something to be aware of. I gtta say,
it looks nice and seems to offer good bang for the buck. If the return
policy is liberal it might be worth a shot.

One thing to look for (possibly on ebay) is that until about 18 months ago,
Ducane did make some real nice USA-made SS grills (models 7100 and 7200)
that have the "Ducane durability", with and without a (flame) rotisserie (to
me the rotis was Ducane's strong point, coming out with it well before the
IR craze). I picked one up in January and have been very pleased with it so
far.

weber, without doubt. you need to spend 2k for a DCS grill for a
noticable diff. I speak from 8 ys exp with both.

Default Options for buying a grill

I am a Mod at another site. The best moderation is little moderation. I
protect the inmnocent and clueless, and try to let conversations run
their course. do prevent flame wars.

for me i am a facilitator not a moderator, and my job is to facilitate
conversations, not stifle them
