Good CO. Barbeque
Thelma's Barbeque

These are the two best, IMHO.

I've never been there, but saw on tv, Thelma's BBQ was rated high.
Thelma drove a semi for a number of years saving money to open her own
bbq joint. They say she can be cranky about "special" orders, take it as
you get it! (grin)

One of the Goode bbq places has a store attached that sells some bbq
accessories.
The food was excellent!

They also have a web-site: www.goodecompany.com

The Hall of Flame has closed and been replaced by a bar/resturant/live
music venue.

Memphis? Yeah, you can't beat that dry, chewy crap at the Rendezvous!

We have a number of good BBQ Shacks here in Houston. Depends on what part of
town he will be in.
I work on the theory, "If there's more than one of the same name, it's a
chain." so I tend to like the small places where you can meet the
owner/chef/pitmaster while you're having a meal. At the one near our
neighborhood the guy invited to to spend time cooking with him to pick up
tips.

A local restaurant review site is http://www.b4-u-eat.com/
The reviews there are from patrons, not paid reviewers.
So their opinions may be worth just what you paid for them.

Sure you can! You can stop by any one of about 20 Corky's locations. Of
course you COULD order your Corky's off their web site and have it FedEx'ed
to you.

Actually Memphis BBQ isn't good, or bad. It's just different.
We heathen Texans will BBQ things that the Good Lord did NOT put on a pig!

Now I was reading an article recently about tamales and they were raving
about the quaility of tamales people get in and around Memphis. So much for
my faith in THAT reviewer. =;)

The rule of thumb is "The worse the plsce looke, the better the BBQ/"
Goode & Co. is the best. Go hungry.

I second Goode Co. but if you can get there, go to Williams Smokehouse.
North and a bit west of downtown.

Back in the 80's there was a place in Houston with a reputation rivaling
Arthur Bryant's in KC. It too was owned and operated by an elderly
black man and it too was decorated in a rather Spartan fashion. The
'Q' was as good as it gets. The experience sticks in memory due to
our 'my' driver that day. He was a converted New York taxi driver. I'll
never understand how he got away with some of the stunts he pulled
that day.

I used to go to Goode Co. and loved it (c. 1982-1986).

I aslo recall that the State Penetentary won "Best BBQ in Texas" once
or twice.
