Default New Orleans Cuisine Request

I would like to offer visitors to my webpage a taste of New Orleans
cuisine.

Do you have any recipes you would like to share?

I will post these recipes to http://www.theinfozone.net/lifestyle.html

There is a link there for people viewing those recipes to make a
donation to the Red Cross or Salvation Army, or if YOU have a suggested
charity, I would love to add it too the list.

Please email me directly at

I would like to include these recipes as a way for those not from NOLA
to share in your cuisine and unique style.

Thanks....

And, if you go to

www.theinfozone.net/NOLAmissing.html

You would see that we have a dedicated page, and database for people
who are missing or seeking contact in New Orleans.

We have volunteers who have been working on this since the storm hit.

We are also working with the major groups to merge all the information
into the major lists, including the Red Cross.

I am sorry if I sound a little bothered here, but when people shoot off
their mouth without thinking or taking the time to look at what they
are doing, it does bother me.

Another page, www.katrina.com has had to pull down a valuable
resource off of her page, a discussion forum because of people acting
like wackaloons on that asset.

There are people all over the world looking to help those who have
suffered loses in New Orleans.

Then there are those who toss darts.

Friendly fire isn't!

You and a few thousand other people, most of whom have the good taste
not to spam for their web sites in dozens of newsgroups.

What makes you think that an ad for your web site is appropriate here
or in any of the other two dozen groups you spammed?

The Red Cross link on your website appears as
http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-1710632-10398816 when one hovers their
mouse
over the clickable Red Cross image. Although it *appears* that the
user
does indeed end up @ the official and valid Red Cross site the
http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-1710632-10398816 URL gives the appearance
of
impropriety. Might I suggest that you update your HTML anchor tag for
the
Red Cross clickable image so that your viewers/readers aren't mislead?
I
would personally suggest you use
http://american.redcross.org/site/Pa...name=ntld_main
but that's just IMHO. I don't know why the link redirects to
http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-1710632-10398816 but it's certain to make
people skeptical.

Sorry for the screwed up formatting folks. My newsreader is junk and I
foolishly copied and pasted text into a Google post w/o reformatting.

Kevin,

The idea came from one of the people from NOLA who is trying to get
back up on their feet.

I am really sorry that you feel that helping is spamming.

Over the past days, the emails from people who are expressing that they
connected to missing or lost family members from the pages set up by
many grassroots groups, who lead this effort off while waiting for the
major groups to get their feet underneath them is incredible and far
offsets the comments from people who feel such efforts are
counter-productive somehow.

Our page is -- to my knowledge -- the only purely dedicated New Orleans
contact page.

We made that decision early because we saw the overall disaster would
be far too huge for us to handle with only eight volunteers.

Groups as diverse as The Smokering have helped out with feeding the
evacuees.

www.thesmokering.com

I am a BBQ fan and offer several of my recipes on the site.

SPAM?

Sheesh.

Aloha

Spam is not near as irritating as that pompous asshole Kevin S. Wilson
is. Folks that give up on this group are far more fed up with that
nitwit than the small amount of spam. Too bad you can't castrate him.

Please don't put words in my mouth. Spamming is posting the same thing
over and over to a single group or posting the same thing to numerous
groups. Spamming is also posting advertisements or commercial notices
to groups that have a charter forbidding such posts. By both
definitions, you're spamming. Deal with it.

You never answered my question. Maybe you missed it. Here it is again:

What makes you think that an ad for your web site is appropriate here
or in any of the other two dozen groups you spammed?

>Our page is -- to my knowledge -- the only purely dedicated New Orleans

Then you probably ought to delete the following from your webbages:

"The Infozone along with about 50 Web sites have lists of missing and
contacts for those persons who are seeking to connect with missing
loved ones."

Very Simple Kevin,

YOU did the fire, ready, aim and then decided to rant.

An ad? Advertising is by definition a means to try to make money.

Perhaps a Public Service announcement.

Can you share with everyone here what YOU personally have done to help
the people in the Gulf Coast states in this disaster?

I shared what we are doing with you.

Perhaps you will share with us what you have done.

Rant? You don't advance your argument by attempting to color mine with
a perjorative label.

>An ad? Advertising is by definition a means to try to make money.

Someone should tell the Humane Shelter they can stop placing those ads
urging people to spay and neuter their pets. Mr. WebTVer here says
those aren't ads.

>Perhaps a Public Service announcement.

A PSA is a type of ad. Your so-called "PSA" didn't even point to your
NOLA contact web page. It pointed to the Lifestyle section. Why is
that, if your noble intent was merely to help the people of NOLA?

Why should I? First of all, it's none of your business. Second, it's a
red herring that has nothing to do with the issue at hand. That issue,
I'll remind you, is that you are spamming. And like every spammer, you
think that your message is so important that you can ignore
prohibitions against spamming, including those in your ISP's
Acceptable Use Policy.

Here's the relevant portion of ShawCable's AUP:

"Newsgroups

"Messages posted to newsgroups must comply with the written charters
or Frequently Asked Questions (“FAQ’s”) for those newsgroups.
Advertisements, solicitations, or other commercial messages may be
^^^^^^^^^^^^^
posted only in those newsgroups whose charters or FAQ’s explicitly
permit them. You are responsible for determining the policies of a
given newsgroup before posting to it.

"Posting or cross-posting the same or substantially similar messages
to more than 9 newsgroups is prohibited. Our news software will
automatically cancel any messages posted to 9 or more newsgroups."

It really is simple: You're spamming.

Abe...

Thank you.

There are times when good intentions may bend a rule.

Over the past three weeks, we have been working to help the people in
New Orleans.

There have been countless people we have been able to help.

When Kevin commented that I didn't link a posting to the NOLAmissing
page on our site, the reason is very simple, that is not where we are
putting recipes and encouraging people to get involved in helping.

The people visiting that page are looking for missing loved ones, and
resources to help them pick up and get on with their lives.

Recipes are likely the furtherest thing from their thoughts right now.

Sadly, while most of us look toward a weekend, we have people who are
still not able t to find out about their homes, pets, and in many many
cases, their loved ones.

When this effort started, we used MS Excel for our datalist of NOLA
missing, so that it would easily get blended into the master list that
we hoped would be created by the Red Cross.

It took the Red Cross five days from the end of the storm to get
started on getting their list online.

We have contacted a computer programmer to build a stand-ready resource
for future disasters so that there will not be such delays in the
future.

He has agreed to build such a resource.

Over at The Smoke Ring, which the "LifeStyle" page is a member of the
ring, they have published a wonderful story about how the BBQ community
came forward to help feed 1500 people.

The alt food bbq is a list that I have used over the years to learn
from and read some tasty recipes.

I thought simply that it would be a great gesture that people who
wanted to share a recipe as a means of helping out, could be served.

I apologize to the group for the disruption.

For Mr. Watson, I learned from my very wise Grandmother, that the
measure of a man is the size of something that upsets them.

I apologize, Mr. Watson, for upsetting you and disrupting your Thursday
afternoon.

There is one more point here.

If someone is desirous enough to help the people of NO and they are savvy enough
to be using a NG I am fairly certain they can find a way do donate on their own
with little or no help. Soliciting on behalf of people in need is of course a
worthy cause but there is a time and a place for all activities.

I just don't know if this is the place.

Agreed. Kevin is a pimple on the ass of AFB.

He's a homely (I've seen his picture), unhappy little person who has the
ability to whip most people into submission with his keyboard.

He has such skills because he's completely benign and ineffectual in person.

At least here he can think he's a real man. We can allow him that out of
pity.

The fine print in "ads" like you mention are often freebies from the
publisher or other media outlet. That would make them a PSA, but you
already knew that, right?

Why Kevin is it racist for him to do that and not for a black person to
use the n-word? Is there any problem identifying with one's race? No.
Hatred is the problem not racism.
