... My wife broke my heart today. We were planning a dinner for a neighbor friend and she wanted me to make pulled pork. Then she asked me if it had to be smoked and started asking funny questions about if BBQing meant cooking on a grill. I was starting to catch her drift. I was a little suspicious. The last time I Qed some ribs and a small roast she just didn't seem all that excited. She admitted today that she doesn't like the Smokey taste. When I told her how a proper pulled pork was made she asked if I could do it without the smoke. Then when I told her that it was traditional to put coleslaw on top of a pulled pork sandwich she made a face like it was a yucky idea. I wanted to cry. I remember when she bought me the smoker last year for my birthday. She seemed genuinely happy for me. Is there any hope? Oh yeah, any one got any ideas on what cut of meat I can buy to make pulled pork without having to purchase ten pounds of butt roast? What else can I use that doesn't come in ten pound or more chunks. I just can't eat that much meat. No divorce is necessary as I am pretty much in the same boat. I have just learned to purchase less amounts of pork and beef and smoke them primarily for myself. My wife loves my ribs but other than hamburgers she is almost a vegetarian. She does not like brisket, pulled pork or standing rib roasts. I can barely get her to eat steak. When we go out to eat, it is salads or vegie plates. Although she does love my grilled and smoked chickens/turkeys. I have learned to get in good with my local butcher and they cut me 4-5lb butts when needed along with 2-3 rib standing rib roasts. Many butchers/grocery stores in my area tend to make larger cuts and have mentioned cost issues when I asked for smaller cuts. In addition, if you cannot eat it all, take it to work and you will make many many friends with your wonderfull cooking. moncho |

I love my wife. I can find / cook good food in many places. I can't anymore find a good wife somewhere, elsewhere, anywhere, whatever, she is the one. Simple problem: Cook your food, love your wife And let both be a separated issue :-) Mmmhhh! you may try to love your food and cook your wife? However, separated issues. Cheers Daniel |

To answer your second question (which is the easiest), a butt is a
great cut that can be used for pulled pork. It comes in at less than 5 pounds. Your first question is somewhat more difficult, Firstly, what does your wife look like (just kidding),, I think you have to look inward my child, look deep inside and see if you are perhaps the cause of this rift between you and your loved one, your precise and dear wife. Life is learning how to compromise. We can't always get what we want, but perhaps we can get what we need if we try. I say to you my bretheren that perhaps you truly are appling too much smoke. Yes, yes, easy there big guy, (as you pull back from the monitor in horror) as you read these words. As in love, you'll find that a little (smoke) can go a long way. I too found a limit to quantity of smoke and I know that you also brother can see the same truth too!.... Ok, Ok, I'll cut the crap, show your wife that you love her, cut back on the smoke! You can over do the smoke. Especially with a non-vented water/bullet smoker. Regards, Peace, Love and Eternal Harmony To All, Even CL and Kevin! Yes, even those two wiley rascals need love! I LOVE you CL and Kevin, but, but, can't we all just get along???? Piedmont |

Rather than getting a divorce, can you not trade her in for a couple of younger models <grin> Seriously, I've smoked and pulled a few hocks. There isn't too much meat to be gleaned from them after smoking, so buy a few. Graeme |

>She admitted today that she doesn't like the Smokey taste.
Try less smoke. I was doing too much for a while. too. I did a slab of ribs a while back with one smallish chunk of hickory, and it was excellent like that. Less is sometimes better. >Then when I told her that it was traditional to put coleslaw >on top of a pulled pork sandwich she made a face like it >was a yucky idea. Well, I can't disagree with that one much. :-) I'm not a slaw fan. >I wanted to cry. HEY! Did you **** out all your testosterone or something? Been hanging with her friends rather than your friends? (Hmmmm, hers could be fun, too) Watch a few Miller High Life commercials, reruns of The Man Show, turn off that home makeover house-swap crap and watch the History Channel stories about guns or bridges. >I remember when she bought me the smoker last year >for my birthday. She seemed genuinely happy for >me. Is there any hope? I'm sure she *was* genuinely happy, because she made you happy. Keep telling her you love that smoker. Pile it on. :-) >I just can't eat that much meat. There's that testosterone thing again. Sure you can eat that much meat. :-) Seriously though, when you pull it toss a few pounds in a heavy ziplock bag and freeze it. Stash two or three bags, and pull them out when you need 'em. They microwave well. Last time I did that, I threw a pound of cold pulled pork in a small pan and warmed it up with a dash or two of my favorite bbq sauce. Good eats. Or, cut a butt in half and freeze part for later. Good Luck! -John O |

It'll be okay, just keep cooking, and if she doesn't want to eat what you're cooking, that's her loss! >>Oh yeah, any one got any ideas on what cut of meat I can buy to make pulled pork >>without having to purchase ten pounds of butt roast? I get the butcher to cut them in half and I'll freeze the other half for later. I have the same problem because I'm usually just cooking for two. B-Worthey |

In fact, she enjoys watching me wolf down a blood rare steak! I rarely eat turkey because I don't find it flavorful. > > Mmmhhh! you may try to love your food and cook your wife? > However, separated issues. > Hmmm.
