Barbecue (alt.food.barbecue) Discuss barbecue and grilling--southern style "low and slow" smoking of ribs, shoulders and briskets, as well as direct heat grilling of everything from burgers to salmon to vegetables.

Default How: Start a BBQ favorites recipes/links only group?

I have a thought, how about a new newsgroup for the sole purpose of
posting our favorite BBQ recipes, links and other BBQ related resources
that we find useful for BBQ? Something akin to the recipes only group,
moderated to stop off topic. Just recipes and other resources for BBQ
that we come across?

I would like to do this but have no idea how to proceed!

Huh, Huh, what do ya say!? (grin)

I like the idea of sharing, isnt that what this NG is about? Don't think the
traffic generated by people posting info like that would be all that much
anyway. Well, unless each and every one of us insisted on posting one post
for every link and recipe. I'd think recipes would be best posted to the
binary newsgroup in Mastercook format? (readable as text for those without
MasterCook program) Anyway, that's my take. I've been wrong before.

Was this a err, munchie driven idea Rickie?

How about posting them here with the word recipe in the subject line.
Then anyone could search using Google (should I apologize too?)
Why take recipes away from this group?

If you want to do this I hate to say it but you're going to have a hard
time...

If you want to have it moderated you'll be probably be looking to make
it a group in the REC. heirarchy
check out - news.groups - and look into the RFD process, as a warning I
don't think there are enough posters / lurkers here to even meet the
minimum criteria. And there is already a rec.food.recipes group which
probably could use an injection of dedicated BBQ recipes, it might be
worth while to lurk there and attempt to promote more Q-related
content....

anyone at all can get an alt. group started just look at - alt.config
- for instructions, there is a frequent poster there called BarB
(hmmmm) who posts details.

As a frequent lurker I don't see so much traffic here on or off topic
that would rule out simply prefacing the topic line with "(Recipe)" ...
as suggested above.

That's an idea!, I think it would be great if we posted our recipes
and title the subject line such as Recipe Mop or Recipe Sauce or
Recipe Brisket, then they would archieved on Google for future use,
just tell newby's to search google for; Recipe Sauce or Recipe Pork or
Recipe Mop or Just Recipe which would bring them all up if you just
wanted to scan for something new! Make for a fast n' easy search. Same
thing if someone finds a great link that they found useful, post a
message and in the subject line, Link Lump or Link Big Green Egg,
etc... Doing a search now on AFB for recipes brings up tons of junk
that you need to shift through, the word recipe is used in many posts
that have no recipes posted, which would still be one detractor to
using AFB, perhaps the all recipes group would be the easiest thing to
do.
