Coals question
I am getting my stuff together to build an outdoor barbecue. Cinder block,
fire coal starter area, cooking grid, all that stuff. I was wondering. I know I will need an area to start wood and reduce it to coals. After that, when I transfer it to another area where it will provide heat and smoke to the meat ...... In that area, should I place the hot coals (or hot briquettes) on a flat surface, such as concrete, or to a grid? I have some very hefty expanded metal that I will support with hefty rebar to avoid sagging. I was wondering if during the cooking process, it is better to have the coals on a flat bed, or on a grid. If it is on a grid, the air can get to all sides, making it a little hotter. And the ashes can fall through, as well as some of the hot coals. If it is on a flat surface, the ashes can cause the coals to die out a bit, or at least provide a little less heat. Which is better, a grid, or flat area for hot coals? Thanks. I'm about ready to start construction, and I would like to do this just once. I have been to several sites on the building of many smokers. I just need a few more answers to fine tune the final design. Steve |

That well may be. However, the only AGPs (Anti Gravity Pad) worth getting are those which can be plugged into a 240v 30 amp circuit. I've tried the rechargable units and they ain't worth crap. -- A democracy is two wolves and a small lamb voting on what to have for dinner. Opening up your yap and making yourself look ignorant doesn't do a lot for you. Steve |

Yes, asking a question related to the group's topic, and relevant, and getting claptrap about anti gravity stuff is pretty ignorant, isn't it? It sounds as you're a newbie to barbecuing and want to learn more. We've all been there. Lot's of tips, tricks and other valuable information can be learned from here. Coming here and not liking someones answer and trying to tell them be quiet is not gonna make you any friends. It's obvious you don't know monroe well. He's been around a dozen years or more. He has on many occasions made me chuckle or outright LOL. I doubt I am the only one who enjoy his posts for the humor value. Get with the program. Learn to laugh or ignore those you don't care for. But stop bashing others you don't like. Many have been around here for several years. You continue your bashing of others, I can guarantee very few will be willing to offer you valuable advice. So far, you have had very good advice to some of your questions. It's getting less and less though. It can get to zero. But that's your choice... The question was a simple honest one, written in a form that no one could have found offensive or contentious. It was asked to gain knowledge. If this is how this group is when dealing with questions from those outside the little circle of people who rule the group, then there is no value to coming here for a newbie. Or anyone else. It is typical of the decay and demise of many usenet newsgroups. I come here day after day, and see no new messages. Why is it that a topic as popular as this has no new questions day after day? I think I know the answer. I leave you to yourselves. When I really need to know something, Google is far far superior to the elitist snobs here. And their sockpuppets. Steve |

Your original question might not be stupid but it sure as fooch pegged the meter for INANITY. And BLOVIATION. You even answered it for yourself as you asked it,fer crapssake! We The Answerers had pretty much diddly to work with here (excepting perhaps the comedic value of your post) Setting wood on fire and cooking meat with it is,indeed, too difficult for some folks to do. Such a fantastic demonstration of a lack of common sense as you've shown here makes me wonder if you can handle the task safely. Paying an 'elitist snob' to do the job for you might be the best course of action for you. monroe(helping to 'rule the group' through 'decay and demise' since '98) |

Most of his queries are on particulars. And he has often asked, received good replies and not responded. He most often replies to gripe. Pretty anti social type and is getting his due. |
