remote thermometer for WSM

I'm in need of a new remote thermometer for my WSM.

ANy recommendations for a brand? I'd like to measure pit temp at the
grill as well as the meat temp.

Thanks a heap,

Got this as a gift a while ago and has worked fine the few times I've used
it. I see it's not well reviewed but I've had no problems using it to
monitor just WSM temp.

The Taylors sold last fall, (late August thru December) have a very high
failure rate. I would assume that they have sorted it out by now. Look at
the manufacture date.

I've been using this one for 8+ years.

The range may be iffy, depending on your home contruction, etc. But,
that's the case with any remote device.

I've used these for years - the older generation. This is the latest
and greatest. I bought one but I won't be testing it for a few weeks...

I was just thinking that when I started cooking outdoors eight
years ago, it never entered my mind to ask what brand of
therm to buy. I spotted some knockoffs on overstock.com
and bought three for $6/ea. I sold one to Even in Citrus Park
and the other two are still going strong. There's just not
much to be said for consumer level products. They're all
made as cheaply as possible. I have no idea who made
the ones I have. They have no name on them, but they
work as well as any.

El Cheapo Taylors from Tuesday Morning are what I'm using-goin on 5 or 6
yrs now. The Maverick dual I got backintheday (model ET7, IIRC)was a
total absolute abject&complete ripoff. The thing was topoftheline
expensive as hell and it NEVER worked right, even after I shelled $$ out
for the heavyduty probes for it. I ended up crushing it under the car
wheel in whatcha might call a 'snit of pique'.
Sometimes you DON'T get what you pay for at all!

monroe(also have a Fluke 52 K-type dual thermocouple for pit temp if
need be)

I've had my eye on that Fluke for a bunch of years, but just never
got around to ordering one. Maybe I'll stop by Grainger and see if
they have one on the shelf. There's other uses for that besides BBQ.

I got mine offa eBay. Got 300' of TC wire and 6 extra plugs from an
outfit that wholesales TC stuff. I figured that was a enough to qualify
for a 'lifetime supply'. It's nice to be able to make leads that're
custom-length. Yer abso right about the many uses-
automotive,homeimprovement,meteorological,culinary .....

monroe(definitely worth every penny)
