I enjoy many types of fish, including catfish, monkfish, trout, salmon,
walleye, perch, bass, halibut. . . . and many others. I draw the line at
Tilapia. IMHO, the flavor is not something I enjoy.

My first catfish feast came when I was about 4-5 years old. My dad took me
to the same spot on the same nearby stream where he'd fished since he was a
little boy. We dug worms and cut saplings for poles. Soon, my bobber went
under and I pulled up a catfish. Others followed and we cooked them there
on that creek bank, eating them with our fingers. It was a feast fit for a
king.

Sounds similar to my early experiences with Abalone. :-)

Ditto that! I wonder if it could be genetics (with the taste buds)?

That reminds me of the ongoing dichotomy permeating anthropological
forums. Was pre/early man an inland savanna dweller or was he
restricted to coasts and permanent water ways? Well, I think the first
time Cave Dude cooked and ate a catfish, 15-20 minutes after it was
flopping around, he would have seriously resisted going out on the
savanna.

Yeh, but how many catfish did he likely eat raw before he found out about
fire? Yuk. Of course, extreme hunger has a lot to do with desirability of
food.
