Barbecue (alt.food.barbecue) Discuss barbecue and grilling--southern style "low and slow" smoking of ribs, shoulders and briskets, as well as direct heat grilling of everything from burgers to salmon to vegetables.

Default No Deals - Prices went UP!

Usually there's some good Memorial day deal out there, but not in Austin
this week. Bone-in butts and briskets just went up to $1.86 (up about
$.30). Pork Baby Back from $2.77 to $2.99. Pork picnic from $1.27 to
$1.49. Pork spares from #1.79 to $1.99. Beef ribs - $1.69 (who cares).
And whole chickens always vary.

Looks like supermarkets (at least HEB) are trying to cash in this holiday
rather than rake in the customers. They're talking a lesson off of the big
oil companies.

It also looks to be bad time to invest in a fancy smoker.

Same here in the Atlanta area, called and priced meat today.
Whole hams were 1.50,ribs by the case, thats 9 racks, 1.86,
and shoulders or butts i think were the same as the hams.
You dont even wanna price beef here atm, took a huge hike this week.
This was from a local processing plant that sells to the public,
I didnt even try the groc stores. That was per # pricing....

No, it's called "Getting customers into your store to spend
money", "Holiday Sales", and "Loss Leaders"

All yours, Dave.
