Default New Years Day

Don't know if you'd all consider this BBQ'n but on New Years day I
plan on spit roasting a whole lamb over my firepit. I'm planning on
stuffing the stomach cavity with onions, lemons, garlic and plenty of
fresh thyme then sewing it closed. Slow cooked over an open wood fire,
motorized spit for the lazy, and I'll be using seasoned cherry wood.
Weather reports call for a chance of snow. This would only enhance the
experience.....bunch of people, some still in their PJ's even,
standing round an open pit, meat on the spit, beers in hand, and snow
lightly falling all around! This was the exact scene from 2 years ago
when we did a steamship round this way. I can't wait!

In anticipation of the new year I'd like to thank all the contributors
from whom I've learned much (and saved a lot of your posts for future
reference) and gained a lot of confidence to go ahead and try things I
haven't learned. Happy New Year! (non-denominational of course)

I'm surprised that you don't seem to realize that you have just defined
BBQ in one sentence; "spit roasting a whole lamb over my firepit."
That's BBQ. Slow roasting meat over a fire is the origen of BBQ.
Everything since is the adaptations folks have had to make to
simulate real BBQ.

.. . .

Translate: Bunch of hungry people waiting around the fire for the meat
to get done enough to be tasty. That's BBQ.

Screw that "non-denomination" caveat. No self respecting American
will diss your choice of words. Millions of dedicated young men and
women have fought and died for your (OUR) right to practice religion
(or not) as we see fit. The Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule
are non-denominational. They simply outline the natural law of
civilization. Our continous disregard of natural law can only result in
yet another recycle of the planet. It's sad that America, the last
bastion of morality, is in it's death throes from the unrelenting
advance of socialism. However gloryific it might seem, humanity
is not ready for socialism. We are neither ants nor bees and thus are
unsuited for socialist society.

Good luck America. I will not live to experience your death

The lamb sounds great. People in their PJ's, drinking beer in the snow MUST
be posted on a.b.f ! What does the lamb weigh?

The farm we're getting the lamb from is an all organic farm and has
asked us for pics to post on their website. We will have pics and
possibly video posted there afterwards. Here is the link.

I'll post something to let you know when it is updated with the pics.

I don't know. It's a large rolled roast from the side and upper rear
of the cow and includes the bottom round roast as part of it. Usually
goes between 50 and 60 lbs. I usually unroll it, dry rub, re-roll it
and put it on the spit for about 6 - 7 hours, cooked to med rare using
apply wood.
