Barbecue (alt.food.barbecue) Discuss barbecue and grilling--southern style "low and slow" smoking of ribs, shoulders and briskets, as well as direct heat grilling of everything from burgers to salmon to vegetables.

Well, I finally got something arranged, but it's pretty primitive. You can
view it at
davebbq.com

Let me know what you think.

It's all good except the change in the last paragraph on "origins". You go
from Dave to David.

Other than that, no fault.

ok, I'll have a half slab, beans and creamy slaw. Wait, NO BEER??!??
Just kiddin'.

The site looks good. In addition to TFM's comment about Dave/David
(with which I agree) you may want to consider adding a small
description of what the "Hey, I want it all" combo includes.
Personally, I'd add unsweetened Iced Tea too. Not everyone likes the
Sweet Tea. After you open, it may be nice to add a pic page and show
people some of your wares. Pics are worth a thousand words.

All in all though looks like a good start to me.

Good start, Dave! Can't wait to see pics. You could have a photo contest
for the ABF'ers.

You have a couple of misspellings in your menu though. "Banana" and
"Peasant". I don't know what a peasant pie is, but I've made "rustic"
pies which is freeform without the pie pan. I'll take a slice of peach
however it's made!

A good start, Dave. I took the liberty of editing the text for you,
mostly for grammatical correctness and consistency. Here's the edited
text, followed by some general comments. My comments on the edited
text are in brackets.

[Home page:]

Meat-eaters will weep with joy. Vegetarians will wail and moan from
utter distress.

Our pork, beef, ribs, sausage, and chicken are slowly cooked--smoked
over hardwood logs and coals for the long hours that it takes to turn
meat into the most tender, moist, and flavorful mouthful of goodness
you've had the pleasure to wrap your lips around.

[I changed "mouth" to "lips." It didn't make sense to me to wrap my
mouth around a mouthful.]

Flavored by the pleasant tang of real hardwood smoke, along with dry
rubs of special spice mixtures, our melt-in-your-mouth barbecue will
keep you coming back for more.

[I deleted "the" before "dry rubs." I could explain why, but just
trust me.]

[Origins]

Dave has specialized in cooking Southern-style barbecue for the past
18 years. To him, creating authentic Barbecue is just as specialized
as cooking French, Chinese, or Italian cuisines.

During the past six years, Dave has traveled extensively into North
Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri, Florida,
Alabama, New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma, examining the cooking styles
and operations of many, many popular BBQ joints, spending from one day
to one week in the kitchens and around the barbecue pits of those
joints.

Over the last four years, Dave has puzzled over the lack of any type
of barbecue restaurant in the Wenatchee area.

In 2002, Dave decided that he was going to take his expertise and love
of barbecue and open up his own joint, "Dave's Pit-Smoked Bar-B-Que,"
basing it on the successful joints he has frequented. Two years later,
his store opened on October 16.

Dave is experienced in kitchen and barbecue production, quality
control, inventory management, and food safety standards. He has also
catered barbecue for several large events over the last two years.
Best of all, Dave knows Southern-style BBQ!

[I tightened up the passage above, corrected a couple of typos, and
added some missing commas.]

Other comments:
1. Consider adding a mailto: link on the contact page. I don't like
filling out a web form just to e-mail someone.

2. On the home page, the font size changes in the phrase "This is REAL
barbecue. The real deal."

3. The text is fully justified on the home page and the origins page,
causing weird huge ugly spaces between words. Set
it to left-justified.

4. When you get time, I suggest that you replace the image of the menu
with HTML.

5. Photos, photos, photos--but get them done by a pro or a talented
amateur.

Good news is: Yahoo finds your website
http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=www...om&fr=ieas-dns
Bad news is : Isn't up at the moment.

Dave, it would be a nice thing for a proper link like www.davebbq.com so we
dont have to cut n paste.

We need PICTURES!

Oh, I forgot, yer not open yet. Guess this is what threw me:

LOL, I guess it isn't *quite* ready to be open for public "consumption" yet.

Looks good, Dave.
