It appears however that I made travel arrangements for the wrong date.
I could have sworn that I read at least one post stating the meeting was
to be on the 19th. I did not note that that happens to be a tuesday. Kili
thinks the date is the 16th which makes more sense. Travelocity states
that neither the air or hotel portions of my trip can be changed. Cancellation
will cost me $407.40, not a pleasant thought.

booking agencies. They appear to be totally inflexible. My bad. Even

Just thought I might have another suggestion, that may be worth a shot.

If you have booked the flights online, you could always dispute the
transaction with your credit card company and ask them to suspend payment.
If the travel operator discovers that they are not going to receive payment,
it might press them to change your booking.

Might be worth a try.

Worth a shot. Tell them that it was a typo and that you were *not*
trying to cancel the trip just move the flights to the right days and
that the company will not work with you. Sounds like a reasonable
request to me and the company is being unreasonable.

That is great advice. I ordered some software a few months ago and
the computer went mad and triple tapped me. We only found out when
the Card Statement came. I phoned the Card guys [didn't need
perpetual hold from the software guys], told them about the triple tap
and they promptly corrected that right on the spot - credit me/back
charge vendor - done deal! Try it.

Thanks for the tip Graeme. I'm going to check into that first thing in the AM.
I deal with VISA. On the only occasion I ever had to question a charge, their
customer rep was unable to identify the source of the charge and thusly
deleted it on the spot. I don't know much about it, but I think they have some
sort of customer satisfaction policy. Certainly, Travelocity seems very
unreasonable in this instance.

Thanks for the tip Graeme. I'm going to check into that first thing in the AM.

The facts are starting to come together for me. I have noticed a new
place in construction next to where I get my haircut on Crescent. Is
this the new bbq place? It is very close to my house, and an easy stop
on my way across the bridge from work in E. Wenatchee. Will there be
take-out? Fresh sausages?....like the ones I get from Owens Meats in
Cle Elum? Yummmmmm. It will be nice to have a new restaurant open in
Wenatchee....now if someone would just come open a sushi bar, I would
be very happy! Jane

The facts are starting to come together for me. I have noticed a new
place in construction next to where I get my haircut on Crescent. Is
this the new bbq place? It is very close to my house, and an easy stop
on my way across the bridge from work in E. Wenatchee. Will there be
take-out? Fresh sausages?....like the ones I get from Owens Meats in
Cle Elum? Yummmmmm. It will be nice to have a new restaurant open in
Wenatchee....now if someone would just come open a sushi bar, I would
be very happy! Jane

You can always change the ticket reservations directly through the
airline. It isn't free, but it's only a $50 to $75 (depending on
airline) fee, plus any difference in price between the fares.

I've done it many times. Doesn't matter if the tickets were bought
online.

I tried that Kevin. American Airlines could not even find the reservation.
I called the number on the back of my credit card and lo and behold
they took care of it. They immediately posted a credit to my account
for the full amount. (Bank Of America). It looks like I will be on time
for the do do at Daves new BBQ joint.

I called the number on the back of my credit card and lo and behold
they took care of it. They immediately posted a credit to my account

I would suggest NOT going so fast and getting another reservation right
away. As I understand it, when you file a dispute the other
party(travelocity) does have 30 days or so to respond to your dispute.

It is standard procedure for credit card companies to post an immediate
credit when filing a dispute. If the credit card company determines
that the dispute is valid(after reviewing the response from the other
party), the credit is permanent. If they decide the dispute is not
valid, then the charge goes back to your card.

So wait a bit and check with BofA on the progress of your dispute. I
think most credit card companies are willing to bend over backwards for
your business and will do whatever they can to help you. But in the end,
it is the agreement between you and the travel company that provides the
evidence that BofA will use to determine 'who is right'. OTH, maybe the
travel company will not respond, because they got all of their tickets
sold for your dates of travel and have no loss of revenue. If this
happens, you win by default.

This is way OT, but bbq is right. Bank Of America told me something just
like he said. Frankly I can't see BOA arbitrarily eating the mistake. OTOH,
maybe Travelocity will unbend a little. In the real world, business dates are
subject to change too. Total inflexibility can't be good for business.

Business dates change a lot. And they pay higher rates for the convenience
of making the changes.

Sometimes we just have to take responsibility for our actions and pay the
price for our errors. I know it is a strange concepts, but it can work and
make the world a better place to live.

Exactly. Sites like Travelocity depend on people honoring their
commitments; if they allowed customers to change bookings, their
prices would reflect that fact--putting them out of business. Also,
chargebacks aren't designed to enable consumers to back out of an
agreeement they've entered into with a merchant. They are designed to
protect consumers from being charged for something they didn't order
or being charged for merchandise they didn't receive.

Your right, in that B of A is not going to eat the mistake. The travel
company still has plenty of time though to sell a ticket they sold you.
A cancellation charge of $400 to me seems very unreasonable, given your
wanting to change your reservation(because of an honest mistake) within
24 hours of the original purchase.

Many years ago, I made an Xmas reservation on a super saver rate in
September. Went to purchase the tickets in November, 30 days before
departure (as required on this super saver rate) and was told that I
needed to purchase the tickets the day before, because the 30th day was
a weekend. I argued till I was blue in the face. Not sure how many
levels of supervisors I went through, but do remember that it took me
over an hour to get my tickets. I got my tickets at the super saver rate.

It was a battle for sure. But staying fairly calm and professional,
allowed me to get to a level of supervision that had the authority to
make the decision to 'satisfy a customer'. You start cussing, it's all
over, you lose.

Stay calm, stay professional and you can win. Lose your cool and start
swearing and cussing, you don't have a chance.
